Role Description/Purpose


The Caracas Teaching Centre offers a wide range of courses for both adults and young learners, delivered at our main centre in Caracas, in partner institutions and schools across the city, as well as in several public and private organisations. We have ambitious plans for growth in the coming years as we expand into new areas of the city through partnerships that cater to learners of all age groups.


All British Council policies, standards and regulations apply to this role, and teachers are expected to work in full compliance with them. The purpose of this role is to provide learners with a rewarding and stimulating English language learning experience, to promote and ensure high‑quality teaching and effective learning, and to support the wider aims of the British Council and its cultural relations mission.


 


Role Accountabilities


The British Council’s global English strategy is supported through high‑quality teaching that meets the needs of diverse learner groups. In this role, you will plan, prepare and deliver engaging English language lessons that respond to different learning styles and ensure a positive and effective learning experience. You will monitor learner progress throughout the course, provide regular feedback, and encourage the development of learner autonomy. The role also involves contributing to the ongoing development, evaluation and improvement of courses, materials and related services, while ensuring that all teaching meets the standards outlined in Teaching and Learning Reviews, the annual Academic Quality Plan and wider organisational expectations.


You will be expected to use technology in lessons when required and complete all administrative tasks accurately and on time. A key part of the role is helping to build strong, lasting relationships with students by enhancing their understanding of contemporary UK culture. You may also be asked to provide class cover for colleagues when needed. Active engagement in professional development and performance management is essential to maintain high standards in teaching and learning and to ensure the British Council remains at the forefront of best ELT practice.


The role further supports local marketing and promotional activities and contributes to delivering excellent customer service within the teaching centre. All safeguarding, equality, diversity, inclusion, health and safety guidelines must be consistently applied and upheld in line with British Council policies and standards.


 


Qualifications & Experience


Essentials



  • Undergraduate or University degree.

  • Cambridge Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CELTA) or Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) certification from Trinity College.

  • A minimum of 2 years post-certificate i.e. Cambridge CELTA/Trinity cert TESOL experience gained from teaching a variety of age groups and levels from young learners through to adults.

  • Proficiency in English equivalent to a Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) C2 level.


Desirables



  • Recognised diploma in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) i.e. Diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (DELTA).

  • Teaching Young Learners Extension Certificate (TYLEC)or Certificate in English Language Teaching to Young Learners (CELTYL) .

  • Bachelor of Education Degree Programme in Primary Education or Post-Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE).

  • Master of Arts (TESOL or other related subject).

  • Experience teaching myClass, International English Language Testing System (IELTS), Business English, Very Young Learners and Primary.


 


Important Information



  • Location: Caracas / On Site.

  • Hourly Rate: 11.49 USD for CELTA certified teachers. 13.56 USD for DELTA certified teachers. 

  • Working Hours: Classes are offered from 07.00 a.m. to 7:10 p.m. Monday to Friday, and 08.00 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. on Saturdays. This role may require mornings and/or evenings, and Saturday work. Every effort is made to reduce split shifts. 

  • Proof of Identity & Right to Work: Locally Recruited - Applications are welcomed from candidates currently in this location with a natural right to work. Applications are also welcomed from candidates currently based in other British Council country offices. However, please note candidates must have a natural right to work in the country, on a permanent basis, as immigration clearance and/or on-going visa support is not provided by the British Council for this role. Relocation support is also not provided

  • Contract type: Fixed Term - 12 months.
