Job Description - Housing Advice and Prevention Officer

4 months contract with a local authority

Rate: £30 per hour umbrella

Summary

This role involves delivering a comprehensive housing advice and homelessness prevention service for a local authority on a 4-month contract. The position is crucial in supporting individuals and families to prevent or alleviate homelessness by assessing housing applications and ensuring compliance with relevant housing legislation, including the Housing Act 1996 and the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017. The successful candidate will work closely with vulnerable clients, partner agencies, and support networks to achieve positive housing outcomes, making a significant impact on the community.

Responsibilities

Assess housing applications under the Housing Act 1996 and the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.

Provide expert housing advice and homelessness prevention support to clients with diverse housing needs.

Conduct thorough homelessness assessments and make legally compliant decisions.

Prepare and issue decision letters and personal housing plans for homelessness cases.

Manage a diverse and complex caseload, ensuring accurate record-keeping and case notes.

Interview clients to investigate housing circumstances and determine eligibility.

Utilize early intervention strategies and available housing options to prevent and relieve homelessness.

Assist clients in accessing temporary accommodation, private rentals, and housing register opportunities.

Requirements:

Experience in Housing Options, Housing Needs, Homelessness Prevention, or within a Local Authority Housing team.

Proven experience in assessing homelessness applications and making informed decisions.

Strong knowledge of the Housing Act 1996 and the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.

Relevant experience in Housing Options, Housing Needs, or Homelessness Prevention.

GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths.

Ability to work 37 hours per week.

Mainly working from home. Can send equipment out. Do have team meetings some face to face

DBS check required.

Additional Information

The role offers a rate of £30 per hour under an umbrella arrangement.

Payments are made on a bi-weekly schedule.
