Housing Assessment Officer Brent, London Temporary Full Time We are looking for an experienced Housing Assessment Officer to join a Housing Needs & Support team in Brent on a temporary basis. This is an excellent opportunity for a housing professional with experience in housing allocations, housing registers, lettings or homelessness services to support the delivery of a customer-focused social housing assessment and lettings service. The successful candidate will assess housing applications, determine housing priority and eligibility, manage housing register cases and support the allocation of social housing across the borough. THE ROLE As a Housing Assessment Officer, you will manage a varied caseload of housing register and lettings cases, ensuring applications are assessed accurately and in accordance with housing legislation, allocations policies and council procedures. Key responsibilities include: Assessing applications to the housing register under relevant housing legislation and local allocations policies. Investigating applicants' circumstances through interviews, verification checks, home visits and liaison with external agencies. Determining eligibility, qualification and housing priority, issuing decision letters and advising applicants of review rights. Managing the administration of the choice-based lettings scheme, including property advertising, bidding activity and allocations. Making nominations and allocations to available social housing properties to minimise void periods and maximise stock utilisation. Preparing reports and referrals for medical assessments, social care services and housing panels where required. Managing enquiries, complaints and correspondence from applicants, MPs, councillors, solicitors and partner organisations.THE CANDIDATE The ideal candidate will have previous experience working within a Housing Allocations, Housing Register, Lettings, Homelessness or Housing Needs team within a Local Authority or Housing Association setting. Applicants should also demonstrate: Knowledge of housing allocations, housing register processes or social housing lettings. Experience managing complex housing cases and making decisions in line with legislation and policy. Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain decisions clearly to customers and stakeholders. Strong IT skills with experience using housing management systems and Microsoft Office packages. The ability to prioritise workloads, meet deadlines and deliver high-quality customer-focused services.THE CONTRACT WORKING HOURS: Full Time – 36 Hours Per Week LENGTH OF CONTRACT: 3 Month Contract RATE: The pay for the role is £28.19 per hour LTD company rate. The PAYE equivalent is £24.03 per hour, inclusive of holiday pay.
