Job Description - Housing Surveyor




Job Title: Private Sector Housing Surveyor (DFG)








Contract Duration: 12-Month Fixed-Term Contract



Rate: £35 Umbrella



Working Pattern: 37 hours per week – Hybrid (predominantly remote, site visits as required)







Summary








The Private Sector Housing Surveyor plays a crucial role in supporting the delivery of the Council’s Disabled Facilities Grants (DFG) Programme. This position involves providing professional surveying services within the Private Sector Housing team. The role requires assessing, designing, and managing adaptation works to enable residents to live independently in their homes. The surveyor will collaborate closely with Occupational Therapists, clients, and contractors to ensure that adaptations are safe, practical, compliant, and efficiently delivered.







Responsibilities








Surveying & Technical Delivery









  • Conduct site visits and surveys of residential properties to assess adaptation requirements.

  • Prepare technical drawings, specifications, and schedules of works in line with DFG requirements.

  • Design appropriate housing adaptations in collaboration with Occupational Therapists and clients.




Project & Case Management









  • Manage adaptation cases from initial assessment through to completion.

  • Monitor progress of works onsite to ensure quality, compliance, and timely delivery.

  • Maintain accurate records and case files in line with procedures.




Stakeholder Engagement









  • Liaise with clients, contractors, Occupational Therapists, and other professionals to progress cases.

  • Provide clear advice and guidance to residents regarding adaptation options and processes.

  • Build effective relationships with internal teams and external partners.




Procurement & Tendering









  • Obtain quotations from contractors and evaluate submissions.

  • Prepare tender documentation and manage tender evaluation processes where required.

  • Make recommendations on contractor selection in line with procurement policies.




Approvals & Compliance









  • Prepare and submit applications for planning permission, building regulations, and party wall matters where necessary.

  • Ensure all works comply with relevant legislation, regulations, and health and safety standards.




General Responsibilities









  • Support the effective delivery of the DFG programme within agreed timescales and budgets.

  • Work flexibly across a hybrid model, balancing remote work with site visits.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation, guidance, and best practice.



Requirements



Requirements:







Experience Required









  • Experience in Private Sector Housing, DFG, or housing adaptations.

  • Proven experience conducting property surveys, feasibility assessments, and technical design work.

  • Experience managing projects or caseloads from assessment through to completion.

  • Experience working with contractors, clients, and multidisciplinary teams.

  • Previous local authority or council experience (desirable).




Qualifications & Skills








Qualifications









  • Building Surveying qualification (essential)

  • Membership or working towards membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., RICS, ARB, CIAT)




Skills & Knowledge









  • Strong knowledge of housing adaptations and DFG processes

  • Good understanding of building construction and relevant legislation

  • Ability to produce technical drawings, specifications, and schedules of work

  • Strong project management and organisational skills

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical information clearly

  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
