Job Description - HR Manager

HR Manager role for a Kent-based charity.

This position would suit a resilient HR professional with senior experience in HR or senior workforce leadership roles with a relevant qualification.

Internally, this position is known as Head of Workforce Development and will involve shaping and leading the charity’s approach to recruitment, training, wellbeing, retention, and values-led HR across the organisation.

Essential Criteria

Experience & Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of employment law and best practice HR systems.
  • Proven track record of managing recruitment, performance, wellbeing and staff development for a medium-sized organisation. They have a combined volunteer and paid workforce of around 100 people.
  • Experience supporting line managers through performance or conduct issues.
  • Experience leading and managing a team.
  • Skilled in interpreting and using workforce data to inform action.
  • Strong IT skills and the ability to adapt to new and different systems.

Desirable Criteria

  • CIPD qualification or equivalent.
  • Experience in a charity, social enterprise or co-produced organisation.
  • Experience working alongside autistic people and/ or people with learning disabilities.
  • Knowledge of relevant sector regulations (Dept of Education/ Ofsted, Social Care, etc.).

Job Description

  • To lead and develop inclusive, values-driven and legally compliant workforce practices across the organisation. This includes strategic leadership of recruitment, training, wellbeing, retention, and employee relations - ensuring that all workforce development activities support the organisation’s mission and EPIC values: Equal, People, Involved, and Co-workers.
  • To lead and oversee the Workforce Development team. With proven experience, skills, and knowledge, you will confidently approach and manage the team's workload, leading, coordinating, and delegating responsibilities to build on people’s strengths and aspirations for professional development in a solution-focused, confident, and resilient working manner.
  • As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will play a crucial role in shaping and delivering the wider organisational strategy. They work closely with the Chief Operations Officer, other senior colleagues, and the Board of Trustees to support good governance, safeguard the integrity of our work, and ensure that decision-making is inclusive, person-centred, values-led, and responsive to the needs of the people we support.
  • The role demands a combination of strategic leadership and practical problem-solving, contributing to the strength, sustainability and impact of bemix as an inclusive and values-driven organisation.

Work schedule: 37 hours

£50,000 + benefits = 25 days holiday =BH

The role offers hybrid working. Based in Canterbury for a minimum of three days each week with regular travel to other locations across Kent, and the opportunity for remote working.
