Job Description - HR Manager - Education

HR Manager - Permanent, Full-Time - Education Sector

Location: Oxford City Centre (on-site role)
Salary: £40,000 – £45,000 per annum
Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent (38.75 hours/week, Monday to Friday, 08:15–17:00)

A respected organisation in the education sector, based in central Oxford, is seeking a skilled and proactive HR Manager to join their team. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a high-performing and people-focused environment where staff wellbeing and development are key priorities.

The Role

The HR Manager will be responsible for delivering comprehensive HR services across the organisation, supporting both operational and strategic HR functions. Reporting to the HR Director, the successful candidate will lead on recruitment, employee relations, HR administration, and contribute to wider HR initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Recruitment

  • Manage end-to-end recruitment processes
  • Draft job adverts and maintain job descriptions
  • Conduct ID checks and welcome candidates
  • Support apprenticeship and contractor recruitment

HR Administration

  • Oversee the employee lifecycle and pre-employment checks
  • Prepare contracts, offer letters, and maintain accurate records
  • Maintain the Single Central Register with precision
  • Manage HR systems and databases

Employee Relations & Engagement

  • Provide first-line support on employee relations matters
  • Advise staff on policies and procedures
  • Support HR projects and initiatives

Absence Management

  • Monitor staff absences and flag concerns
  • Guide staff on absence policies and procedures

Candidate Profile

Essential

  • CIPD qualified or equivalent experience
  • Strong knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • High level of discretion and confidentiality
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel

Desirable

  • Experience in the education sector
  • Familiarity with Safer Recruitment guidelines
  • Experience with HR systems
