HR Officer

Do you enjoy the operational side of HR, where you're the one keeping things moving day to day? And would you like to do it somewhere the work genuinely matters? This role sits within a small HR team, reporting to the HR Manager, and it's a real mix of hands-on recruitment work and broader generalist support.

The Role

You'll be the person the organisation comes to for practical, day-to-day HR help. Recruitment and onboarding sit firmly with you, alongside a wider generalist remit supporting the HR Manager.

Recruitment and onboarding

This is a big part of the job, and you'll own it end to end.

• Manage recruitment campaigns from advert through to offer, working with managers on requirements and shortlisting


• Coordinate interviews, assessments and feedback


• Prepare offers, contracts and starter paperwork


• Run pre-employment checks, including right to work, references and any role-specific screening


• Deliver a well-organised induction so new starters land properly and settle quickly


• Track recruitment activity and keep managers updated on where things stand

Day-to-day HR support

You'll be the first point of contact for a lot of the everyday queries.

• Advise managers and employees on policy, process and terms and conditions


• Support employee relations casework, including note-taking, case preparation and lower-level matters in your own right


• Manage the full employee lifecycle administration, from changes and family leave through to leavers


• Escalate the more complex issues to the HR Manager, with the groundwork already done

Systems, records and reporting

• Maintain accurate employee records and HR files


• Produce regular reporting on recruitment, turnover, absence and other people data


• Spot where processes could work better and suggest practical improvements


• Support wider HR projects as they come up

You'll Flourish if You Have

• Solid generalist HR experience in a busy, people-heavy environment


• Genuine recruitment and onboarding experience, ideally end to end


• CIPD Level 3 or 5, or equivalent experience


• Confidence advising managers and holding your ground when you need to


• Strong organisation, and the ability to juggle several things at once


• A practical, solutions-focused approach and a willingness to muck in
