The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Health, Safety and Environmental Manager to provide expert Health, Safety and Environmental leadership across a diverse portfolio of rail and telecommunications infrastructure projects throughout the UK.
Supporting operational delivery teams and the wider HSQE function, you will play a key role in developing, implementing and continuously improving the company's Health, Safety and Environmental Management System, ensuring projects are delivered safely, compliantly and in line with industry best practice.

HSE Manager Responsibilities
HSE Management System Development: Support the development, implementation and continuous improvement of the company's Health, Safety and Environmental Management System.
Project HSE Support: Provide Health, Safety and Environmental guidance and support to project teams throughout mobilisation, delivery and project transition phases.
Legislative Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, environmental and railway industry legislation, standards and client requirements.
Audits & Inspections: Plan and conduct site inspections, audits and compliance reviews across operational and project locations.
Risk Management: Support risk assessments, hazard identification activities and the implementation of effective control measures.
Incident Investigation: Lead or support investigations into incidents, near misses and non-conformances, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
ISO Compliance Support: Assist with ISO management system audits, compliance reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.
Environmental Management: Promote environmental best practice and support environmental compliance across all project activities.
Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve HSE processes, systems and overall business performance.
Safety Culture Development: Champion a proactive and positive safety culture across operational and project teams.
Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain effective relationships with internal teams, clients, contractors and external stakeholders.
HSQE Support: Support wider quality, health, safety and environmental initiatives as part of the broader HSQE function.
Ideal HSE Manager
NEBOSH Qualified: NEBOSH Construction Certificate (Construction Plus).
Environmental Qualification: IEMA Foundation Certificate in Environmental Management, IEMA Certificate in Environmental Management or equivalent.
Rail Industry Experience: Experience supporting rail infrastructure projects within operational project environments.
Network Rail / TfL Knowledge: Knowledge of and experience working to Network Rail and Transport for London standards and requirements.
Audit & Compliance Experience: Experience conducting site audits, inspections and compliance reviews.
HSE Legislation Knowledge: Strong understanding of Health, Safety and Environmental legislation, management systems and industry best practice.
Communication Skills: Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence and engage at all levels.
Problem-Solving Ability: Proactive and solutions-focused approach to identifying risks and implementing practical improvements.
Adaptability & Resilience: Able to perform effectively within fast-paced, complex and changing project environments.
Continuous Improvement Mindset: Passion for driving improvements in Health, Safety, Environmental and operational performance.
Flexibility & Commitment: Willingness to travel extensively, work varied hours and provide occasional out-of-hours support when required.
Location & Working Arrangements
Location: South Region (including Bristol, Cardiff, Central London and surrounding project locations)
Working Pattern: Full-time role with a combination of day and night shifts.
Working Arrangement: Site‑based role with flexible working arrangements (Approximately 75% site‑based activity and 25% office and home working, subject to agreement with your line manager).
Travel Requirements: Extensive travel across project locations throughout the South region.

Up to £70,000 per annum, dependent on experience.
