We are looking for a HR Advisor to join our People and Development team, in the Birmingham office. The successful candidate will work closely with the Senior HR Business Partner along with the wider People and Development team to provide a timely, effective, and pragmatic HR service to the firm. You will be instrumental to supporting the delivery of the people strategy with the aim of creating the best place to work.

The Role

Provide day-to-day, operational HR support and advice to employees, team leaders and directors, and escalate any issues to the Senior HR Business Partners.

Advise on a range of policies and procedures including capability, disciplinary and grievance policy and procedures, maternity, paternity and shared parental leave policies, flexible working, absence, salary and benefits etc.

Coach and support the People and Development administration team in the successful performance of their duties.

Provide direction, coaching and support to managers on performance and employee relations issues, suggesting practical solutions and assisting in meetings when required.

Provide training to line managers on people management aspects such as managing absence, conducting appraisals, managing performance and mental health & wellbeing.

Support line managers in managing employee wellbeing, occupational health referrals and income protection claims.

Conduct leaver interviews, providing feedback and reporting on key trends.

Ensure absence is managed effectively, including providing accurate advice and guidance to line managers and employees.

Maintain the Home office management system, conduct Asylum and Immigration checks along with annual visa checks, and process certificates of sponsorship. Advise on standard visa queries for recruitment.

Respond to bid queries, providing relevant information in a timely manner and provide management information data where required.

Maintain the integrity of the systems used by HR.

Provide support for HR initiatives and projects as required, leading on some projects where necessary. This could include supporting annual business projects such a pay review, bonus, annual benefits renewals, employee engagement and gender pay gap calculations.

Keep up to date with relevant employment law and new HR initiatives to ensure good practice is being followed. Use knowledge to ensure all policies and procedures are legally compliant and effective in the UK and for Hoare Lea’s international offices. Be part of the annual policy review.

Provide key MI information to inform people-related actions.

Work with other central functions to deliver firm wide initiatives as required.

Responsible for continuously reviewing employee benefits, ensuring the benefits we offer meet the firm’s strategic aims and align with the people strategy.

Advise on IR35 queries and contractor agreements.

What We Are Looking For

Previous HR advisory experience.
Degree qualified.
CIPD qualified to minimum level 5.
Solid understanding of current UK legislation.
Experience with handling complex people cases.
Good understanding of IR35 contractor regulations.
Experience with advising and managing visa application processes.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively and competently with people at all levels.
Strong team working skills with a can-do approach.
Excellent eye for detail and organisational skills.
High level of computer literacy – working knowledge of MS Office suite to include Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, Outlook.
Strong competency and knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
Power BI and Power Automate experience is desirable.
Tact and discretion when handling confidential documents and information.
Ability to deal with difficult tasks calmly and efficiently.
