HV Substation Designer

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented HV Substation Designer to support the delivery of capital and maintenance projects across a wide range of substations. The successful applicant will be responsible for producing high-quality design documentation and providing technical support throughout the construction and commissioning phases.

This role requires an in-depth understanding of station control systems, network operations, protection schemes, and HV equipment operation, along with a strong commitment to safety and technical excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

• Planning, scoping, and costing of projects in high voltage substations

• Preparation of preliminary health and safety documentation and design risk assessments

• Creation of detailed electrical designs, including layouts, schematics, and wiring schedules

• Acting as the PSDP contact on projects and ensuring full compliance with safety legislation

• Coordination with other discipline designers and external contractors/design teams

• Use of CAE tools such as AutoCAD Electrical or E-Plan for electrical design

• Providing ongoing technical support throughout the substation project lifecycle

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

Essential:

• Electrical or design experience

• Proficiency in CAD/CAE systems such as MicroStation or AutoCAD

• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

Desirable:

• Experience implementing standards, policies, and quality systems to ensure high design standards

• Familiarity with HV substation assets and infrastructure

• Understanding of quality management systems and best practices

• Strong project management capabilities

Qualifications:

• Advanced Level 6 Electrical Craft Certificate OR

• A suitable Level 7 or higher qualification in Electrical, Electrical Services, Electronics, Mechanical, Building Services, or a related discipline with significant electrical content
