We are seeking an experienced Hydraulics Design Engineer to join an established engineering team in Burwell, Cambridgeshire. This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on engineer with strong hydraulic design expertise to take ownership of the design, development and delivery of hydraulic systems and equipment across a range of engineering projects.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop and specify hydraulic systems, circuits and components to meet project requirements, performance expectations and relevant engineering standards.
Produce and interpret hydraulic schematics, engineering drawings, technical specifications and supporting documentation.
Carry out hydraulic system calculations, component selection and technical assessments to ensure system performance, efficiency and reliability.
Support projects throughout the full engineering lifecycle, from initial concept and design through to manufacture, assembly, testing, commissioning and installation.
Work closely with production, procurement and supply chain teams to ensure hydraulic designs are practical, cost-effective and suitable for manufacture.
Provide hands-on technical support during hydraulic system assembly, installation, commissioning and fault-finding activities.
Investigate hydraulic system failures, undertake root-cause analysis and implement effective corrective and preventative solutions.
Ensure all hydraulic designs comply with relevant engineering standards, safety requirements and risk assessment processes.
Skills & Experience
Proven experience in hydraulic system design, development or a similar fluid power engineering role.
Strong understanding of hydraulic systems, circuits, components and fluid power principles.
Competent in hydraulic circuit design, system calculations, component specification and technical problem-solving.
Ability to produce and interpret hydraulic schematics, engineering drawings and technical specifications.
Good understanding of relevant engineering standards, safety requirements and risk assessment principles.
Experience using relevant engineering software, CAD packages and technical documentation systems.
Strong analytical and root-cause analysis skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.
Effective communication and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet project deadlines.
A commercially minded approach, balancing technical performance with cost, quality, lead times and manufacturability.
Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, Fluid Power or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
What's on Offer
Location: Cambridgeshire Working hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 7:00am – 3:30pm
Annual leave: 22 days, plus 8 public holidays
