Job Description - IBM Sterling Integration Architect
Role Summary We are seeking an experienced IBM Sterling Integration Architect to lead the discovery, assessment, target-state design and migration planning of a business-critical B2B/EDI and managed file transfer landscape.
The architect will establish visibility of the current Sterling estate, identify business and application dependencies, assess separation and transition implications, and contribute to the future integration platform strategy. The role will also be critical to the subsequent JDE migration programme, ensuring that Sterling integrations connected to JDE and external business partners are identified, assessed, redesigned, migrated, tested and transitioned without disruption to critical business processes.
Key Responsibilities Act as the lead architecture authority for IBM Sterling and all ERP-related B2B, EDI and managed file transfer integrations. Lead the discovery and assessment of the Sterling landscape, including interfaces, trading partners, business processes, integration patterns, configurations and operational dependencies. Establish and validate the end-to-end integration baseline, mapping JDE applications and business processes to Sterling interfaces, external partners, infrastructure, security and support services. Define the target-state and transition architecture for Sterling, covering B2B/EDI, managed file transfer, partner connectivity, coexistence and integration with wider middleware and cloud platforms. Assess the impact of the ERP migration on interfaces, endpoints, data structures, transformations, communication protocols, partner profiles, certificates, schedules, routing, reconciliation and operational support. Determine whether existing Sterling capabilities and interfaces should be retained, consolidated, modernised, rehosted, redesigned, migrated, replaced or retired. Define migration groupings, sequencing, transitional states and coexistence requirements based on business criticality, technical dependencies, partner readiness and operational risk. Establish architecture and non-functional requirements covering availability, scalability, performance, security, compliance, observability, disaster recovery, auditability and supportability. Provide architecture assurance across detailed design, testing, partner validation, cutover, rollback, production readiness and hypercare planning. Facilitate senior stakeholder workshops and translate technical findings into clear architecture decisions, risks, recommendations, roadmaps and executive-level decision materials. Mandatory Experience and Skills Significant hands-on architecture experience with IBM Sterling B2B Integrator in large, business-critical enterprise environments. Strong knowledge of B2B, EDI, managed file transfer, partner integration and high-volume file-based integration. Practical experience with EDIFACT, ANSI X12, XML, JSON, CSV and structured flat-file formats. Strong understanding of AS2, SFTP, FTPS, HTTPS, TLS and PGP. Experience with Sterling business processes, maps, envelopes, routing, mailboxes, partner profiles, certificates, adapters, monitoring and exception handling. Proven experience performing integration discovery and documenting complex current-state environments. Ability to trace integrations across applications, middleware, data flows, schedules, infrastructure and external partners. Experience defining target-state and transition architectures, migration strategies, wave plans, coexistence models and cutover considerations. Strong understanding of security, network connectivity, identity, certificate lifecycle, audit and data-protection requirements. Strong architecture-documentation, stakeholder-management and executive-communication capabilities. Desirable Experience IBM Sterling File Gateway and related Sterling modules. IBM Sterling Control Centre or comparable monitoring capabilities. Sterling Transformation Extender or equivalent mapping technologies. OpenText EDI or other managed EDI services. SAP PO, SAP CPI, API management, event streaming and cloud-native integration platforms. Azure or AWS integration services. Carve-out, divestiture, TSA-exit or separation programmes. Consumer products, manufacturing, supply chain, logistics, order management or warehouse integration. Large-scale trading-partner and 3PL migrations. Architecture governance and design-authority participation.
