Job Description - Infrastructure and Security Administrator
We’re looking for a technically capable and security-focused Infrastructure and Security Administrator to join the Technology team at Sort Group.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced IT professional to take on a varied role spanning infrastructure, technical support, networking and cyber security. Working closely with the Chief Information Officer (CIO), you’ll play an important role in maintaining and improving the Group’s technology infrastructure, while helping to ensure our systems remain secure, reliable and fit for continued growth.
You’ll also act as a key technical escalation point for the IT team, providing guidance and mentorship to IT Technicians and supporting the delivery of infrastructure and software projects across the Group.
Where you’ll be:
You’ll be based primarily at our Derby office in Alvaston. The role will also involve periodic travel to other Sort Group sites, with approximately two visits to each site per year alongside additional ad-hoc travel where required to support projects and infrastructure requirements.
What you’ll be doing:
Supporting the CIO with the planning, project management and delivery of IT projects and services
Maintaining high availability, scalability and security across the Group’s IT infrastructure
Providing technical support for IT infrastructure, hardware, telephony and conferencing systems
Supporting the implementation and integration of new software tools
Managing user accounts, licences and access rights
Managing the acquisition, replacement and removal of IT assets
Supporting and managing IT Service Desk operations
Acting as a technical escalation point for complex or high-impact issues
Providing technical mentorship and sharing knowledge with members of the IT team
Keeping the business informed with clear and timely updates during IT outages
Identifying trends and recurring issues and implementing infrastructure and process improvements
Proactively monitoring the security posture of the Group’s IT infrastructure, including patching, security bulletins and periodic scanning
Providing employees with updates on existing and emerging cyber security threats
Developing and delivering cyber security training and testing for employees
Supporting the CIO with ISO27001 and Cyber Essentials audits
Travelling periodically to the Group’s other offices to support infrastructure, security and project requirements
Requirements
What we’re looking for:
Strong knowledge of Windows Server environments, Windows desktop operating systems and Microsoft 365
Strong knowledge of IT infrastructure, networking and technical troubleshooting
Experience with telephony and conferencing systems, including cloud and virtualised environments
Advanced networking knowledge, including LAN, WAN, VPN, TCP/IP and DNS
Expert troubleshooting skills and the ability to provide technical guidance on complex network issues
Experience managing or supporting IT Service Desk operations
Experience working with ITSM disciplines and ITIL best practices
Basic familiarity with cloud-based services such as AWS and Azure
A strong interest in maintaining and developing your technical and security knowledge
Ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical colleagues
A proactive approach to identifying problems and implementing effective solutions
Strong awareness of data security, confidentiality and IT policies
Willingness to occasionally lift and move IT equipment, including PCs and network devices
Flexibility to travel between Group sites when required
Experience with Citrix environments would be advantageous.
A relevant industry-recognised IT qualification, such as ITIL, CREST Practitioner Security Analyst or CompTIA Security+, would also be beneficial but is not required.

Up to £35,000, depending on experience
