Infrastructure Engineer

Our client, a well-established technology-led business based in Reading, is looking for a talented Infrastructure Engineer to play a key role in the design, implementation, and support of their enterprise systems. What you'll be doing:

• Design, deploy and manage on-prem and cloud infrastructure (primarily Azure).

• Support and evolve virtualisation platforms (VMware and Hyper-V).

• Deliver robust backup, disaster recovery, and high availability solutions.

• Lead infrastructure upgrade and automation projects (Infrastructure as Code).

• Monitor and improve system performance, capacity, and security posture.

• Collaborate with internal teams and 3rd parties to deliver scalable solutions.

• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to long-term infrastructure strategy.

What we're looking for (must-haves):

• Proven experience as a senior or lead Infrastructure Engineer in enterprise environments.

• Strong expertise across Windows Server, Active Directory, and Group Policy.

• Deep understanding of virtualisation technologies - VMware ESXi, vCenter, Hyper-V.

• Hands-on experience with Azure IaaS/PaaS, including VMs, Networking, Storage, and Security.

• Proficiency in PowerShell scripting and Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g., Terraform, ARM).

• Strong grasp of networking fundamentals (DNS, DHCP, firewalls, routing, VLANs).

• Demonstrable experience with backup and DR solutions (Veeam, Commvault, etc).

• Familiarity with monitoring tools (e.g., PRTG, SolarWinds, Azure Monitor).

• Solid understanding of IT security principles and compliance frameworks.

• Excellent documentation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Desirable (nice-to-haves):

• Exposure to Linux environments.

• Knowledge of DevOps principles or containerisation (Docker/Kubernetes).

• Relevant certifications - e.g., Microsoft Azure Administrator, VMware VCP, or Cisco CCNA.
