Why join Rolls-Royce?

At Rolls-Royce we are proud to be a business that has truly helped to shape the modern world and are committed to always being a force for progress; powering, protecting and connecting people everywhere.

By joining Rolls-Royce, you'll have the opportunity to work on world-class solutions, supported by a culture that believes individuality is our greatest strength, and all perspectives, experiences and backgrounds help us innovate and enable our high-performance culture.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Installation Design Engineer to join our Defence Aerospace business in Bristol.

In this role, you will report directly to the Security Operations and SCIDA Manager (EMEA) and will

develop Installation Design Descriptions (IDDs) for Rolls-Royce/UK MOD infrastructure projects.

The successful candidate will assist in delivering secure, scalable, and robust solutions for critical environments, ensuring designs comply with UK MOD JSP standards, NATO SDIP 27/29, and UK MOD security requirements.

What you will be doing:

  • Develop Installation Design Descriptions (IDDs) in accordance with UK MOD JSP standards (e.g., JSP 440, JSP 480, JSP 604) and NATO SDIP 27/29.
  • Produce detailed installation designs covering physical infrastructure, fibre optic and copper structured cabling, power, and environmental considerations.
  • Collaborate closely with Rolls-Royce stakeholders, design authorities, and third-party contractors to capture requirements and ensure compliant design delivery.
  • Ensure all designs meet information assurance, safety, and security requirements for critical environments.
  • Apply the SCIDA (Site Co-ordinating Installation Design Authority) Engineering Change Request (ECR) process to manage and document controlled design changes.
  • Provide technical input during design reviews, audits, and assurance activities.
  • Support the preparation of handover documentation and as-built records.

Position qualifications:

  • Proven experience producing installation or infrastructure design documentation for MOD or defence projects.
  • Experience and use of Defence SCIDA Standards (UK MOD JSP standards, NATO SDIP 27/29), and secure installation requirements.
  • Experience in data centre, information and communications technology, or secure facility infrastructure design.
  • Expertise in fibre optic and copper structured cabling design.
  • Ability to coordinate effectively with third-party contractors and suppliers.
  • Hands-on experience with the SCIDA ECR process for controlled design changes.
  • Excellent documentation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Desirable

  • Chartered Engineer or working towards.
  • Experience with Rolls-Royce/UK MOD site deployments or secure communications networks.
  • Knowledge of Rolls-Royce/UK MOD design approval and assurance processes.

This role will require you to hold a Developed Vetting (DV). To start, you will require a minimum Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you don’t currently already have this in place. Due to the nature of work the business conducts and the protection of certain assets, you must hold a UK nationality. Any dual nationals will require additional scrutiny and background checks prior to commencing work.

Our vision is to ensure that the excellence and ingenuity that shaped our history continues into our future. Our multi-year transformation programme aims to turn Rolls-Royce into a high-performing, competitive, resilient and growing company. Join us, and it can be your future vision too.

Rolls-Royce are committed to being a respectful, inclusive, and non-discriminatory workplace where individuality is valued, diverse perspectives fuel innovation, and everyone can thrive.

As part of our selection process, candidates in certain locations may be asked to complete an online assessment, which can include cognitive and behavioural aptitude testing relevant to the role. If required, full instructions for the next steps will be provided.
