Insurance Underwriter

Reed is currently recruiting on behalf of a well-established Bristol-based client, located just a stone’s throw away from Temple Meads Station. We are seeking a proactive and customer-focused Insurance Underwriter to join on a full time, permanent basis.

This role is ideal for individuals with a keen interest in building or advancing a career in underwriting, particularly those with a background in general insurance, broking, or related fields. You will be instrumental in underwriting both scheme and standalone risks, managing key accounts, and supporting senior underwriters.

Location is perfect for any commuters coming from further-afield for example Cardiff, Cheltenham, Gloucester, Swindon, Exeter.

Duties

Analyse data to quote and renew scheme and standalone policies.

Ensure policy documentation and agreements are accurate and compliant.

Monitor declarations and assess profitability.

Manage a portfolio of key accounts.

Support Senior Underwriters and attend client meetings.

Negotiate terms, exclusions, and premiums within authority limits.

Prioritise and manage workload to meet service and quality standards.

Maintain task management systems and meet deadlines.

Adhere to underwriting guidelines and authority limits.

Ensure all tasks are completed in line with internal processes and audit requirements.

Provide support to colleagues, share knowledge, and contribute to team projects.

Participate in training and development initiatives.

Requirements

Minimum 5 GCSEs (Grade C or above), including Maths and English.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.

Strong numeracy, literacy, and interpersonal skills.

A proactive, organised, and team-oriented approach.

Desirable: CII qualification or working towards it, experience in general insurance, broking, or financial services.
