Interim Head of Financial Control & Reporting

Our Public Sector client is seeking an experienced Interim senior finance leader to oversee financial control, reporting and governance. This is a high‑impact role leading core financial operations, statutory reporting and financial systems development.

The Role You will take ownership of the organisation’s financial control framework, covering accounts receivable, accounts payable, treasury, internal audit, controls compliance, tax, and transactional accounting. Alongside this, you will lead financial reporting activities including balance sheet and cash flow management, accounting judgements, financial planning, external audit and statutory reporting.

Key Responsibilities

* Lead financial control across AP, AR, treasury, tax, audit and financial systems.

* Oversee balance sheet, cash flow, statutory accounts and external audit.

* Lead forward‑looking planning for working capital, cash flow and balance sheet.

* Ensure budgets and forecasts are accurately submitted into group reporting systems.

* Strengthen financial governance, controls and compliance across the organisation.

* Drive improvements in financial processes, systems and reporting quality.

* Manage and develop multi‑disciplinary finance teams.

* Provide senior insight and reporting to executive stakeholders.

What You’ll Bring

* Strong background in financial control, reporting or audit.

* Experience leading senior finance teams in a complex organisation.

* Excellent technical accounting knowledge and statutory reporting experience.

* Ability to influence at senior level and enhance organisational financial discipline.

Key Requirements:

* Fully CCAB Qualified Accountant with significant PQE in a similar role.

* Expert financial accounting and people management experience.

* 3+ years senior level experience (head of department).

* Excellent inter-personal and communication skills.

* Effective and proven negotiation skills with ability to influence decision making.

* Public Sector accounting experience preferred.

* Knowledge of FRS10.
