Interim Operations Manager

Are you an experienced Operations Manager with a background in parks, greenspaces, grounds maintenance, countryside services or environmental operations?

We are currently supporting a Surrey-based Local Authority in the appointment of an Interim Operations Manager to lead the delivery of essential frontline greenspace services across the borough.

This is an excellent opportunity to oversee a diverse operational service responsible for parks, open spaces, sports pitches, playgrounds, cemeteries, allotments, trees, woodlands and countryside sites.

The Role

Reporting to the Greenspaces Manager, you will be responsible for the safe, effective and customer-focused delivery of frontline operations across the service.

Key responsibilities include:

* Leading day-to-day parks and countryside operations.

* Managing and developing Team Leaders and frontline operational staff.

* Planning workloads, resources, vehicles, plant and equipment.

* Driving service improvements and operational efficiencies.

* Ensuring compliance with Health & Safety legislation and safe systems of work.

* Managing contractor performance and service standards.

* Overseeing risk assessments, inspections, audits and incident investigations.

* Maintaining business continuity and emergency response arrangements.

* Building strong relationships with stakeholders, contractors and internal teams.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

* Previous experience managing operational services within a Local Authority or public sector environment.

* A background within parks, greenspaces, grounds maintenance, countryside services, street scene or environmental operations.

* Strong people management experience, including leading supervisors and frontline teams.

* Excellent knowledge of Health & Safety, risk management and operational compliance.

* Experience managing budgets, resources, contractors and service performance.

* The ability to drive change, improve processes and deliver high-quality frontline services.

Contract Details

* 5-month initial contract

* 36 hours per week

* Hybrid working available

* Immediate start preferred
