A growing building services consultancy is looking for an Intermediate Electrical Engineer to strengthen its London team.
This suits an engineer with a couple of years of consultancy experience behind them who wants more ownership of their work, a bigger role in project delivery and a clear route towards chartership.
The Role You'll help shape the electrical design of building projects from early sketches through to coordinated, buildable information. You'll own defined parts of the design, work independently day to day, and lead the electrical design on smaller projects with support from senior colleagues.
Day to day, you'll:
* Run the numbers on electrical loads, containment, equipment sizes, circuit protection and energy performance.
* Develop designs for fire alarm, data cabling, lighting control and security systems.
* Design and size low carbon technologies and assess how much energy they generate and use.
* Prepare sketches, drawings and schedules in AutoCAD and Revit.
* Work with manufacturers and utility providers to confirm equipment choices and submit supply applications.
* Coordinate with the wider design team and contractors, joining project meetings along the way.
* Visit site to check the design is being built as intended and write up your findings.
* Make sure your designs meet the project brief, building regulations, British Standards and CIBSE guidance.
* Support and mentor junior engineers as they find their feet.
* Check in regularly with your line manager to plan your workload and hit deadlines.
About You You'll have:
* At least 2 years' experience as an electrical engineer in building services.
* A strong degree in electrical engineering, building services engineering or a related discipline.
* Confident 2D AutoCAD skills and hands-on experience with Revit or similar BIM tools.
* Working knowledge of design and analysis software such as Amtech, Dialux, PV-GIS and IES.
* A firm grasp of electrical circuit principles.
* Exposure to life safety and critical power systems.
* Awareness of low carbon technologies, EV charging and sustainable design.
* A sound understanding of mechanical and public health services, planning policy, relevant standards and a designer's duties under CDM.
* Graduate membership of CIBSE and/or the IET, with a keen eye on chartership and keeping your CPD up to date.
* Good communication and Microsoft Office skills, an eye for detail, and the ability to prioritise under pressure.
Nice to Have
* Experience designing extra low voltage systems such as CCTV, access control, intruder alarms or BMS.
* Time spent on site installing or commissioning electrical systems.
* Experience as the main contact for the external design team.
* An interest in the latest developments in sustainable building design.
What We Offer
* £37,000-£50,000 salary, depending on experience.
* Hybrid working: 3 days in the office / 2 days from home.
* Support towards chartership and ongoing professional development.
* A friendly, collaborative team.
* Varied projects with real technical interest.
