Job Description - Intermediate Quantity Surveyor

Intermediate Quantity Surveyor / Assistant Project Surveyor 

Location:  Solent

Salary: Highly competitive + Car Allowance + Benefits

In a nutshell

We are a mechanical and electrical services contractor and are actively seeking to recruit for an experienced Quantity Surveyor. We are ideally looking for a suitable candidate that specialises and comes from a Contracting background and used to dealing with pre-contract negotiation as well as commercially leading the delivery of a fast track multi-million pound project.

The ideal candidate would be able to support in providing full commercial awareness to ensure the project management and operational delivery team are aware of all commercial and contractual matters involved on the project, whilst also providing support to the Commercial Manager / Commercial Director as appropriate and required.

Day to day

This role provides the opportunity to be part of something that will last for generations. You will be part of a team that helps design and consult on multiple projects across our business. From residential care villages, to hotels and ground breaking innovative client projects, you will be involved throughout the process.

This will often include the following activities.







  • Oversee all commercial activities during the design phase, supporting the preparation of the tender bid for the AMP (Absolute Maximum Price) and liaising with Subcontractors and Suppliers throughout this stage.

  • Work collaboratively with the design, pre-construction, and estimating teams to ensure commercial coverage during the project development.

  • Assist in preparing and submitting interim valuations and final accounts.

  • Help maintain and update contract documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance.

  • Support subcontract negotiation and administration processes.

  • Assist in managing and valuing contract variations.

  • Negotiate and facilitate the placement of Subcontract Agreements with specialist subcontractors.

  • Perform valuations, prepare, and submit compliant payment notices to subcontractors in line with the Subcontract Agreement.

  • Coordinate the agreement of final accounts, both upstream and downstream.

  • Contribute to cost-value reconciliation and support ongoing project reporting.

  • Collaborate with the project delivery team to ensure all commercial aspects are efficiently managed.

  • Review project programmes and ensure that the necessary contractual notices are issued as required by the contract.

  • Provide assistance to the Senior Quantity Surveyor and Commercial Team as needed.

About you

We are looking for a diverse range of applicants who have a real passion for the M&E industry, perhaps wanting to change careers or kick start their journey with us as one of the largest M&E business in the area.

Here are some of the qualities we are looking for in the right person to join our team          


  • HNC/HND/BSc in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related field (or working towards this qualification).

  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work well within a team and under the guidance of senior staff.

  • Willingness to learn and develop within the role.

  • Basic understanding of construction contracts and processes.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.

  • Full driving license preferred.
    Desirable:

  • Previous experience in a similar role or a placement during studies.

  • Some knowledge of Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) projects.
