Intern - Technical Author

Overview:
We are looking for a detail-oriented and motivated intern to assist with editing user manuals for our equipment. This internship offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in technical writing and document editing within a dynamic team environment.

The Company:
SCION Instruments is part of Techcomp Europe Ltd, and has headquarters in Livingston, Scotland and Goes, Netherlands.
Techcomp comprises of a group of European companies engaged in the design, development, manufacture and distribution of analytical systems, life science equipment and laboratory instruments with operations dating back to 1920. SCION Instruments focuses on the manufacture and GC, GC-MS, GC gas analysers, autosamplers, headspace and LC products servicing a range of markets.
SCION instruments are currently building up its R&D capability for designing and developing the next generation of breakthrough products for an expanding range of applications relating to human life and the environment. Our current target markets focus to chemicals, forensics, food quality, environmental, oil and gas, pharma.

Responsibilities :
Review existing user manuals for clarity, accuracy, and consistency.
Edit content to ensure it is concise, easy to understand, and adheres to established style guidelines.
Collaborate with subject matter experts to clarify technical information and terminology.
Organize and structure information effectively to improve user comprehension.
Incorporate visual aids such as diagrams, illustrations, and screenshots where necessary.
Proofread manuals to identify and correct grammatical errors, typos, and formatting issues.
Assist in updating and maintaining documentation versions.

Requirements:
Strong command of the English language with excellent writing and editing skills.
Detail-oriented mindset with the ability to spot errors and inconsistencies.
Familiarity with technical writing principles and document formatting.
Proficiency in using word processing and editing software (e.g., Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat).
Ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of basic design principles to enhance document layout and visual appeal.
Experience with user interface (UI) design or creating instructional materials.
Understanding of equipment operation and terminology (mechanical, electrical, etc.).

Duration and Compensation:
This is a 2-3 month internship position.
