Job Description - (Internal Only) PYP Staff Orientation Mentor

Hours: NA


Stipend: £ 3 500.00


Reports to: PYP Principal


Requirement: Candidate must have a role in the PYP section of the school



General:


 


The PYP Staff Orientation Mentor role is to provide support and guidance for newly hired PYP staff and ensure that they are guided in their daily tasks, duties and procedures. To support teachers in learning alongside the PYP Coordinator and equipping themselves with unknown ISL systems and resources as they begin their journey with us.



Staff Orientation



  • To develop a specific list of all areas of support the Mentor has provided to new staff in weekly meetings with new staff. 

  • Present at New Teacher Orientation in Week Zero, ensuring teachers are equipped with basic knowledge and skills required for the start of term.

  • Contact new teachers before first day in school (before Week Zero) or before they begin ensuring they are comfortable and ready to attend.

  • Have weekly check ins through the entire school year with new teaching staff. These meetings need to occur after students leave campus or during agreed planning time. Mentor to assist new staff with areas of difficulty and knowledge gaps directly or by organising further support/training from other ISL staff. This is also a place throughout the year for wellbeing check-ins with new staff members.


 


Support Functions



  • Assist new staff with information on who to go to in School for different areas (IT, HR, Marketing, etc.) when they are unsure.

  • Link staff to ISL resources; showing them current ISL systems in place and how they are accessed.

  • Train new staff specifically in:

  • Park duties, ISL playground duties, lunch duties, what to do when absent, how to use photocopier, leaving classroom cleaned and tidy end of day (windows shut, door closed, lights off), how to buy lunch tickets, where to eat, what facilities can do for you, procedures for taking a field trip, leave request, absence request, how to check out books from the library, how to do the register, understanding iSams, how to use email, SchooslBuddy, SeeSaw, how specialist lessons work, Forest School details, how clubs work, clubs expectations, medication procedures when students bring medication to school, for TAs- daily expectations for teaching assistants, and other important systems and information new staff need to be aware of

  • Work closely with the PYP Coordinator to ensure staff are aware of resources and process to assist them in achieving yearly PYP deliverables and goals. (PYP Coordinator oversees curriculum with the new staff)


 


Reporting



  • Provide feedback to the PYP Principal for:

  • Areas of success.

  • Areas of struggle and support given to improve.

  • Any necessary information to further support the new candidate



Care & Guidance



  • To be familiar with the School’s Child Protection Policy and to report concerns to the designated Child Protection Officer

  • To ensure all educational practices are in line with the school’s health and safety procedures and policies.
