Job Description - Internal Scrutiny Lead

We are currently seeking someone with a financial background, with an AAT qualification (or working towards it), as well as experience and an understanding of working within the Education sector to join our Internal Scrutiny Team on a permanent basis.

Main Purpose of the Job

To ensure effective Internal Audit service delivery:

  • Visit Academies and Schools to undertake transactional testing as per the toolkit
  • Manage the growing Internal Audit Team with continuous conversations
  • To organise the bookings in accordance with Customer Requests
  • To quality check, collate and distribute to schools any Internal Audit Reports
  • Liaise with the Business Services Lead to ensure any specific areas are addressed
  • To identify areas requiring improvement to the Business Services Lead
  • To provide feedback to members of the Senior Leadership Team and / or Trustees in the academies
  • To assist in the production of the Internal Audit Report after each visit
  • To provide guidance and best practice advice where relevant to various stakeholders
  • Signpost Academy Staff to further advice and support where necessary
  • Participate in training and briefings
  • Keep up to date with current educational developments and audit requirements affecting Internal Scrutiny across all Academies
  • Support the wider finance team managing the maintained schools audit programme (SIC / SFVS)

You will be supported by a central administration team and be provided with regular training, briefings and updates.

It is essential you can drive and have your own transport; the role will involve travelling to schools.

Experience

  • Experience of working in an educational environment would be highly desirable.

Key Skills

  • Ideally AAT qualified or working towards a similar qualification
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft packages, e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook etc.

  • Accurate keyboard skills for use in producing a range of documents.
  • Knows how to maintain accurate records.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of confidentiality and data protection requirements in the workplace.

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Ability to provide accurate advice and guidance
  • Professional and polite when dealing with colleagues and customers
  • Provides accurate, timely advice, resolving queries and solving problems.
  • Works effectively as a member of a team, demonstrating a flexible approach.
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude, commitment and enthusiasm.
  • Willingness to develop a deep understanding of the procedures and regulations relating to academies
  • Willingness to engage with professional development opportunities
