International Consultant

We are looking for Consultants to support client work and business development for our Geopolitics, Trade and Commercial Resilience team in our London office.

You will be at the heart of everything we do at Flint, supporting clients on geopolitics, international trade, economic policy, regulation and commercial strategy. Flint’s clients want to understand, in detail, how geopolitical and trade developments are changing the environment in which they operate, and how they can build long-term strategies to thrive in an increasingly uncertain global economy.  

We work across a broad range of issues at Flint. On any given day, this could involve interpreting trade agreements and policy; researching and drafting policy positioning papers for clients; briefing clients ahead of meetings with government; assessing the geopolitical and trade risks associated with a particular market or investment; or advising on the commercial implications of changes in trade policy. 

This role provides early-career professionals with the chance to research and analyse complex geopolitical, trade and policy challenges, develop practical options for clients, and translate technical analysis into clear strategic advice.

You will work alongside colleagues from a range of backgrounds and areas of expertise, which offers a great opportunity for professional development. There will be space to engage in discussion and debate on substantive questions of geopolitics, international trade and economic policy, as well as significant scope for progression through the company.

More broadly, you will contribute directly to the growth of our business, generating the ideas that make a difference, both for our clients and for Flint.    

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Consultants generally come to Flint with c. 18 months-3 years’ work experience.  

We are particularly interested in candidates with professional experience in international trade, foreign policy, geopolitics or economic policy, whether in the private or public sector.
Relevant backgrounds could include experience in a trade, foreign policy, geopolitical or public policy consultancy, government department, think tank, political risk or intelligence firm, or industry association.  

We would particularly welcome applications from individuals with experience across areas such as UK, EU or US trade policy, national security, geopolitical and political risk, economic security and sanctions, trade and investment policy, supply-chain resilience, industrial policy, energy security and critical minerals, technology and semiconductor policy, emerging markets and country risk, and political or regulatory due diligence. 

You will have:

• A strong understanding of international trade and/or geopolitics, with the ability to assess how trade policy and geopolitical developments, including tariffs, market access, regulation, government policy, international relations and economic security, can affect companies, sectors, investment decisions and supply chains. 

• Strong analytical, research and problem-solving skills, the ability to assess complex political, economic and trade developments, identify the implications for clients and develop clear strategic advice
  

• Strong written communication skills, with proven ability to draft clear documents for internal and external audiences with varying degrees of expert knowledge.  

• Strong communication and presentation skills, including the ability to communicate complex issues to non-specialists and effectively draw out implications. 

• Strong organisational skills including the capacity to project manage teams, prioritising, planning, and scheduling tasks proactively, and being comfortable working under pressure and to tight deadlines.  

• Strong commercial judgement, with an interest in understanding how international political and economic developments affect businesses, investors and markets.
  

• Strong interpersonal skills, including a flexible approach and the ability to work well across teams, both with internal colleagues and external clients.
