Positioned within Eaton Vance Equity, a group of 40+ equity investment professionals, the International Small & Mid Cap Equity Team (developed markets ex-US) is comprised of six experienced sector-based investors.  The team takes a fundamental, long-term oriented approach utilizing its proprietary Quality, Valuation, and Time (QVT) investment framework.

We are looking to add an Equity Research Associate to the team. Based in London, the analyst will be expected to evaluate public equity investment opportunities and support senior analysts in their coverage of the international small & mid cap universe, including benchmarks such as the MSCI World Ex. US Small Cap Index, MSCI EAFE SMID Cap Index, and MSCI Europe SMID Cap Index.

We are seeking an individual with the right skills, values, and mindset. This individual should demonstrate the following traits:

  • Passion for investing, especially within international small & mid cap equities and a quality focus to stock selection.

  • A strong team player who can fit well within our unique team culture which is grounded in accountability, collaboration, and debate.

  • A self-starter, capable of working independently.

  • Strong foundation of analytical skills, including financial modelling, accounting, valuation, and demonstrated experience using AI/LLM tools to deepen these capabilities.

  • Strong presentation and communication skills.

  • Intellectual humility, including the ability to engage in debate constructively and recognize flaws in one’s own thinking.

Responsibilities

  • Support the senior analysts on the team in generating strong and consistent alpha, applying a bottom-up, fundamental investment process.

  • Conduct high-quality fundamental analysis of international small-cap equities and relevant industries.

  • Generate and proactively communicate investment takeaways & conclusions on individual securities, as well as provide views on the attractiveness of relevant industries and subsectors.

  • Develop proprietary investment insights from non-traditional data sources.

  • Assess financially material ESG factors as part of the research process, and collaborate with colleagues at Calvert.

  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with the portfolio managers and analysts across other equity and fixed income teams in order to facilitate the sharing and debate of relevant information and investment views.

  • Proactively participate and collaborate in team meetings, taking a holistic view of portfolios, and contributing to debate on securities across all sectors.

What we’re looking for:

  • Participation or interest in the CFA charterholder program.

  • Relevant buy-side investment experience. Experience with quality-focused investment managers a plus.

  • Strong academic track record demonstrating an understanding of finance and economics.

  • Technological prowess and demonstrated experience using AI/LLM tools as part of the investment process.

  • Strong motivation to join a highly collaborative team of experienced investment professionals.

  • Solid analytical and decision-making skills in equity analysis, including the ability to build robust financial models in a timely manner.

  • Superior understanding of securities analysis, valuation methods, qualitative and quantitative research techniques.

  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team, with flexibility and adaptability.
