Field Network Engineer – SD-WAN Migration

We are seeking an experienced Field Network Engineer to support a nationwide SD-WAN migration project across pharmacy locations. The successful candidate will be responsible for replacing legacy Cisco networking equipment with new SD-WAN infrastructure, installing Fortinet networking hardware, completing site surveys, and ensuring minimal disruption to business operations.

This is a customer-facing role requiring excellent technical skills, strong communication, and the ability to work independently while liaising with remote technical teams throughout each installation.

Key Responsibilities

Attend customer sites to complete SD-WAN migration activities.

Liaise with the Pharmacy Manager on arrival and advise them of the planned installation and expected network downtime.

Carry out pre-installation site surveys.

Photograph the existing wireless access point (AP) and surrounding area.

Record the mounting location of existing wireless access points.

Measure and record ceiling heights where new access points are to be installed.

Photograph existing communications cabinets and document all installed equipment.

Confirm migration readiness with remote engineers before commencing work.

Install and commission new One Access routers.

Migrate broadband services from existing Cisco routers to new SD-WAN routers.

Install and power up FortiGate firewalls.

Install and configure FortiSwitch network switches.

Complete WAN and LAN patching between routers, firewalls and switches.

Verify network connectivity with remote support teams.

Record switch port allocations and network device connections.

Document Netgear switch port details where applicable.

Complete installation reports and provide photographic evidence of completed works.

Technical Responsibilities

Install and replace SD-WAN networking equipment.

Router installation and migration.

FortiGate Firewall installation.

FortiSwitch installation.

Cisco router replacement.

LAN and WAN connectivity.

Network cabling and pathing.

Rack and communicatios cabinet installations.

Basic network testing and troubleshooting.

Support remote engineers during commissioning.

Essential Skills & Experience

Previous experience as a Field Network Engineer or Network Installation Engineer.

Experience installing routers, switches and firewalls.

Knowledge of Cisco networking equipment.

Experience with Fortinet products (FortiGate/FortiSwitch desirable).

SD-WAN deployment or migration experience preferred.

Experience working within communications cabinets and patch panels.

Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking.

Ability to follow technical runbooks and installation procedures.

Excellent customer service and communication skills.

Ability to work independently across multiple customer sites.

Full UK Driving Licence.

Desirable Skills

CCNA or equivalent networking qualification.

Experience working within retail or healthcare environments.

Experience supporting nationwide rollout projects.

Basic Wi-Fi installation knowledge.

Knowledge of structured cabling standards.

Key Deliverables

Accurate completion of installation documentation.

Successful remote validation of network connectivity.
