Job Description - It Support Engineer

IT Support Engineer

About Pell Frischmann:

Pell Frischmann is a specialist advisory and technical consultancy operating across the built and natural environment, helping to shape a better future for the communities in which we work. We offer consultancy services, with access to specialist sister companies and partners, to support both public and private-sector clients. We work across sectors encompassing buildings, infrastructure, and regeneration.

Originally formed in 1926, we have a unique heritage in delivering client-focused solutions that deliver value through our commercial awareness, sustainable aspirations, and innovative approach. Our distinctive future is defined by our ownership; Pell Frischmann is a part of RSBG SE, the patient capital investment arm of RAG-Stiftung. RAG-Stiftung is a foundation with the long-term public purpose to deal with the environmental and social commitments resulting from the closing of Germany’s coal mining industry. RSBG SE’s mission is to generate sustainable funds for the foundation; so, our work directly contributes to the challenge of fighting global pollution and climate change.

The Role

Based in our Exeter office of over 100 people, we're looking for an IT Support Engineer who enjoys solving problems, providing excellent customer service, and ensuring colleagues have the technology and support they need to perform at their best.

This is a varied, hands-on role where you'll support over 700 colleagues across the business, helping to maintain a secure, efficient, and reliable IT environment. From resolving technical issues and setting up new equipment to supporting key business systems and contributing to continuous improvements, you'll play an important role in keeping the organisation running smoothly.

If you enjoy troubleshooting, working with people, and being part of a collaborative IT team, we'd love to hear from you.

To be considered, you must live within commutable distance of Exeter and hold a full, permanent right to work in the UK.

What You'll Be Doing

* Providing 1st and 2nd line support to colleagues across the business, resolving hardware, software, and connectivity issues.

* Acting as a key point of contact for IT support requests, delivering a professional and customer-focused service.

* Diagnosing and troubleshooting laptops, desktops, mobile devices, peripherals, and business applications.

* Managing support tickets through to resolution, ensuring users are kept informed throughout.

* Setting up equipment, accounts, and access rights for new starters.

* Supporting user offboarding activities, ensuring accounts, equipment, and permissions are managed securely.

* Assisting with the administration of Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange, Teams, SharePoint, and Intune.

* Supporting network connectivity, VPN access, printers, and meeting room technology.

* Maintaining accurate asset registers and IT documentation.

* Assisting with software deployments, upgrades, and security updates.

* Supporting local office IT requirements while working closely with the wider IT team.

* Contributing ideas to improve support processes, user experience, and operational efficiency.

What You Bring

We're looking for someone who takes ownership of issues, enjoys helping people, and brings a proactive approach to problem-solving. You will be comfortable working independently whilst also collaborating effectively with colleagues across the business.

Key Experience & Skills

* Previous experience in an IT Support, Service Desk, or 1st/2nd Line Support role.

* Strong knowledge of Microsoft Windows 11 environments.

* Hands-on experience supporting:

* Microsoft 365 applications and services.

* Active Directory, Exchange Online, Intune, SharePoint, and Microsoft Teams.

* User account administration and access management.

* Good understanding of networking fundamentals including LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, TCP/IP, and VPN technologies.

* Experience troubleshooting hardware, software, mobile devices, and peripheral issues.

* Strong customer service and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical information clearly to non-technical users.

* Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks.

* A proactive, enthusiastic attitude and willingness to learn new technologies.

* Full UK driving licence.

Desirable

* IT qualifications or certifications such as CompTIA A+, Microsoft Fundamentals, ITIL, or equivalent.

* Experience with HP laptops and enterprise device management.

* Exposure to Apple/Mac environments.

* Experience working within a professional services or multi-site organisation.

* Familiarity with cyber security best practices and endpoint security solutions.

Make an Impact

This role offers the opportunity to become a valued member of a supportive IT team where your contribution will have a direct impact on the day-to-day success of the business. You'll be trusted to take ownership, build strong relationships with colleagues, and continuously improve the service provided to users.

If you're looking for a role where you can develop your technical skills, work with a broad range of technologies, and genuinely make a difference every day, we'd love to hear from you.
