ITS Design Engineer

Our client, a leading organisation within the highways sector, is seeking an enthusiastic ITS Design Engineer to join its team in Chelmsford. This permanent role will support the design, development and delivery of intelligent transport systems across the Essex Highways network, with occasional site visits and flexible working hours.

Key Responsibilities:

Design and deliver intelligent transport system schemes and specification documents for tendering and construction
Develop solutions involving traffic signals, pedestrian crossings, CCTV installations and electronic driver messaging signs
Prepare controller configuration forms, technical specifications and supporting design documentation
Respond to technical queries relating to ITS and traffic engineering
Review and approve third-party ITS designs and proposals
Work collaboratively with clients, operational teams, colleagues, supply chain partners and external stakeholders to resolve technical issues
Assist with the management and monitoring of works programmes, budgets and project performance
Promote high standards of health, safety, environmental compliance and quality in line with integrated management systems

Job Requirements:

Experience in ITS design, traffic signals or highways engineering
Familiarity with traffic signal control strategies, including VA, UTC/SCOOT and MOVA
Ability to write controller configuration forms and ITS technical specifications
Understanding of ITS standards, specifications and relevant industry guidance
Experience carrying out technical reviews of third-party designs and proposals
Knowledge of health and safety legislation, including the CDM Regulations
Strong communication, problem-solving and stakeholder management skills
BEng or BSc degree, preferably in electrical or civil engineering, or suitable equivalent experience

Additional Information:

Based in Chelmsford
Standard working hours of 8.00am to 4.30pm, with flexibility available
Occasional site visits required
