Job Description - Job Evaluation Analyst


3 Month Contract With A Local Authority







Job Purpose

To undertake and deliver job evaluation activity to ensure roles are assessed consistently, fairly and in accordance with agreed job evaluation methodologies across the organisation.

The postholder will evaluate roles and appeals using the National Joint Council (NJC) and Hay job evaluation schemes, providing professional advice and guidance to managers, HR colleagues and stakeholders. They will ensure job evaluation processes are applied consistently, support pay and reward initiatives, and contribute to the continuous improvement of the job evaluation service while promoting equality, transparency and fairness in pay and grading decisions.













Key Responsibilities



  • Undertake job evaluations and appeals across a wide range of roles using the NJC and Hay job evaluation schemes.

  • Analyse job descriptions, Job Description Questionnaires (JDQs) and supporting evidence to determine appropriate evaluation outcomes.

  • Apply job evaluation frameworks, procedures and local conventions consistently and accurately.

  • Prepare documentation and present findings to job evaluation panels where required.

  • Provide professional advice and guidance to managers, HR colleagues and stakeholders on job evaluation processes and outcomes.

  • Respond to queries and explain evaluation decisions clearly and objectively.

  • Support moderation processes by providing evidence-based rationale for evaluation outcomes.

  • Maintain accurate records, audit trails and management information relating to job evaluation activity.

  • Contribute to the review and continuous improvement of job evaluation processes, systems and documentation.

  • Support and coach trainee analysts by sharing knowledge and good practice.

  • Develop effective working relationships with managers, HR colleagues and trade union representatives, supporting collaborative working arrangements.

  • Contribute to pay and reward projects and related organisational initiatives as required.

  • Deputise for the Senior Job Evaluation/Quality Assurance role where appropriate.

  • Manage a varied workload, prioritising cases to meet agreed service standards and deadlines.

  • Ensure compliance with job evaluation schemes, equality principles, organisational policies and relevant legislation.

  • Escalate complex or high-risk cases where appropriate.

  • Undertake any other duties commensurate with the level of the post.









Requirements

Knowledge & Qualifications



  • Educated to GCSE/A Level standard or able to demonstrate equivalent experience.

  • Formal training in the application of the Hay Guide Chart and National Joint Council (NJC) Job Evaluation schemes.

  • Good understanding of job evaluation principles, pay and grading, and equality in reward.

  • Awareness of relevant employment and equal pay legislation (desirable).

  • Understanding of working within defined policies, frameworks and structured processes.

  • Commitment to continuous professional development.

Experience



  • Experience of undertaking job evaluations or working within a structured analytical or HR environment.

  • Experience of applying analytical thinking to complex information and evidence.

  • Experience of providing advice and guidance to managers and stakeholders.

  • Experience of working within process-driven environments with defined procedures.

  • Experience within a local authority or wider public sector environment is desirable.

  • Adaptable and committed to equality, fairness and continuous improvement.

  • Hours per Week: 36

  • Payment: Bi-weekly
