PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

We’re looking for a great producer and journalist to work at CNS, supporting audio production and compiling and reading radio news bulletins across BBC Local Radio stations in England and the Channel Islands. As an experienced journalist and newsreader with great delivery, you’ll bring an energy to showcase the best of our local journalism to wider audiences. You’ll be as comfortable producing audio and you are on-air, with a strong drive to innovate, collaborate and create impact as part of the wider Central Team at the heart of BBC Local.

WHY JOIN THE TEAM

As well as being one of the voices of news bulletins across the local radio every weekday evening, you’ll work with colleagues to produce and deliver news content to local radio stations, focusing on the biggest stories of the day, showcasing BBC Local’s best journalism and content, and helping deliver significant moments and guests to BBC Local Radio.

CNS is part of BBC Local’s Central Team, supporting our network of newsrooms and radio station. We have a strong reputation for delivering high-quality and high-impact content.  The wider Central Team spearheads BBC Local’s online news and sport services, read by millions of people each week, as well as our data journalism team.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

You'll have substantial journalism experience, first class writing skills, a strong sense of BBC Local’s audience and news agenda, and a critical ear. You’ll enjoy working as part of a diverse team, and be confident in contributing ideas to our wider output.   You’ll have sound editorial judgement, a confident working knowledge of media law and BBC editorial guidelines, and the ability to work under pressure.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • Demonstrable experience as a journalist, including producing and delivering accurate, engaging news content to tight deadlines in a live or fast paced environment

  • Proven experience of preparing and reading news bulletins, with a confident, professional broadcast voice and strong editorial judgement

  • Strong multi-platform experience, collaborating with 5teams to maximise reach.

  • Knowledge of media law and BBC editorial guidelines, with the ability to work in a team environment under pressure.

DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:

  • An understanding and working knowledge of the BBC’s products, such as BBC News Online and/or BBC Sounds.

  • Experience of working with national news and planning teams to create high-impact moments.

  • If you can bring some of these skills and experience, along with transferable strengths, we’d love to hear from you and encourage you to apply.
