We want someone who can do more than turn around press releases – we want original journalism that helps reflect Lancashire’s diversity.

WHY JOIN THE TEAM

The role is based at BBC Lancashire in Blackburn.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

You’ll report to the news editor (SJTM) in Blackburn and be expected to deliver tight, well-written copy which could feature on the BBC News website, radio bulletins audio and TV output. You will help to set up items for BBC Radio Lancashire, reporting on different stories, from court cases to diverting and relatable features, as well as delivering voice pieces, clips and copy for bulletins. Your work could feature across our social channels, and you may also be expected to record interviews for our TV output.

  • Report quickly and accurately the news stories of the day – from breaking news to social issues.

  • Produce original journalism by using a wide range of contacts and sources and identify innovative story ideas and treatments for our audience.

  • Come up with investigation and feature ideas that help us represent different audiences

  • Report on news stories in the field and from the office, conduct interviews, attend media conferences, live events and report from court.

  • Work as an integral part of the BBC Lancashire news team, working alongside producers, correspondents and reporters in the North West, as well as the wider BBC.

  • Deliver to tight deadlines while maintaining the highest editorial standards.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
You’ll be an experienced multi-media journalist, comfortable writing and producing content across websites and audio outlets. You’ll be confident conducting interviews, and have a voice that works for radio.

  •  Radio production

  • The ability to tell complex stories in an engaging way using a variety of text, video and social media

DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:

  • Optimo trained for online writing.

  •  TV shoot/edit skills

  • Mojo trained.
