Job Description - Kitchen Porter

Full-Time Kitchen Porter 


Sidmouth Seafront | Independent Family-Run Business


We are recruiting for a Full-Time Kitchen Porter to join our kitchen team at one of our busy seafront sites in Sidmouth.


This role is ideal for someone practical, reliable and hardworking who takes pride in maintaining high standards of cleanliness and organisation within a professional kitchen environment.


Shift Pattern


Shifts vary each week and will include a mixture of the following hours:



  • 7:00am–12:00pm

  • 7:00am-3:00pm

  • 8:00am–12:00pm

  • 3:00pm-9.00pm

  • 5:30pm–9:30pm


This is a full-time position averaging 40-45 hours per week, spread across 5 day working depending on business levels.


Please note: this role is not live-in.


Purpose of the Role


To support the kitchen team in maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness, organisation, food safety and operational efficiency.


The Kitchen Porter plays a critical role in ensuring kitchens remain clean, compliant and service-ready at all times.


Responsible For



  • Maintaining health, hygiene and cleanliness standards in all kitchen areas

  • Washing up and equipment cleaning

  • Supporting food preparation as required

  • Storage of deliveries

  • External cleanliness including patios and delivery areas (morning shifts)

  • Accurate completion of cleaning records


Key Duties & Responsibilities


1. Cleaning & Hygiene Standards



  • Wash and sanitise all crockery, cutlery, glassware, utensils and kitchen equipment

  • Ensure clear and organised pot wash and drying areas

  • Maintain clean floors, walls, work surfaces, fridges, freezers and dry stores

  • Deep clean equipment and sections as directed

  • Empty and manage waste bins appropriately

  • Ensure kitchen is fully cleaned and cleared at the end of each shift

  • Keep kitchen cleaning records up to date in conjunction with Chef


A high standard of cleanliness must be maintained at all times, in line with food safety legislation and inspection standards.


2. Food Preparation Support



  • Vegetable preparation

  • Basic food prep as directed

  • Breakfast preparation support

  • Relief breakfast chef shifts where required


3. Deliveries & Storage



  • Assist with receiving deliveries

  • Ensure correct storage and stock rotation (FIFO principles)

  • Keep delivery and external storage areas clean and organised


4. External & Front of House Support (Morning Shifts – where required)



  • Clean patio areas and furniture

  • Water and maintain external plants

  • Sweep and maintain delivery entrances

  • Ensure umbrellas and cushions are placed out in good weather and stored at night


5. Compliance & Records



  • Follow all Food Safety and Health & Safety procedures

  • Support SFBB (Safer Food Better Business) compliance

  • Report maintenance or safety issues immediately

  • Adhere to company hygiene and uniform standards

What We’re Looking For



  • English speaking

  • Previous kitchen porter or cleaning experience preferred (not essential)

  • Strong work ethic and attention to detail

  • Reliable, punctual and able to work independently

  • Must have the legal right to work in the UK with relevant visa/status
