Job Description - Land Surveyor

About the Company

Our client is a UK-based surveying firm specialising in land, measured building, and setting-out surveys. With a strong reputation for precision, technical expertise and client-focused service delivery, the company supports a varied portfolio of projects across residential, commercial and infrastructure sectors.

The Role

We are looking to recruit a skilled Land Surveyor to join the technical team and support survey projects from groundwork through to delivery. The successful candidate will work on topographic surveys, boundary surveys, site setting-out and other land-based work for private, developer and public-sector clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out land and boundary surveys, topographic surveys, site setting-out and control work

  • Operate surveying instruments (total station, GPS/GNSS, laser scanner, etc) and associated field equipment

  • Capture, record and process survey data accurately using appropriate software packages

  • Produce survey deliverables, drawings and reports to client and company standards

  • Liaise with clients, contractors and internal project teams to ensure survey requirements are clearly understood and met

  • Ensure survey work complies with industry standards, health & safety regulations and company quality procedures

  • Travel to site locations across the UK as required and work independently or as part of a team

  • Assist in maintaining equipment calibration, survey logs, and field safety records

Requirements

About You

  • Proven experience (typically 2-4 years) as a land surveyor working on topographic, boundary or setting-out surveys

  • Proficient in the use of surveying instruments (total station, GPS/GNSS) and familiar with relevant software (e.g., CAD, AutoCAD Civil 3D, survey data processing tools)

  • Good computer skills (Microsoft Office, data capture systems)

  • Excellent attention to detail and strong report/drawing production capabilities

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills — comfortable liaising with clients, site teams and internal stakeholders

  • Valid full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to different sites

  • Understanding of health & safety on construction sites and ability to work safely in field environments

Desirable Skills & Qualifications

  • Qualification in geomatics, surveying or related discipline (HND/HNC/BSc)

  • Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) or Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (CICES))

  • Experience with laser scanning, drone surveys or BIM deliverables

  • Experience working in multi-discipline projects (utilities, highways, development)
