We are looking for a self-starter with an interest in the latest trends in sports technology to develop algorithms on player and team performance. The candidate would have a minimum of 10 years of industry experience and be familiar with the algorithm development lifecycle from data collection, through modelling & simulation to testing.

Parental leave cover duration: 10 months starting mid-August 2024

Required skills / Experience:
MEng/MSc or higher in Engineering, Mathematics or Computer Science;
Minimum 10 years industrial experience in designing, developing and coding digital signal processing and/or supervised classification algorithms for low-latency applications
Knowledge of positioning systems (GPS or other RF locating systems) and inertial motion sensors
Minimum 5 years’ experience working with senior technical and commercial stakeholders
At least 5 years' experience managing a team of at least 3-5 members including contractors.
Demonstrable experience with workload prioritization. Knowledge of JIRA (preferred).
Well-versed in using mathematical software for data extraction and simulation of algorithm performance (Python, MATLAB or similar)
Experience with creating sports data insights (preferred)
Understanding of laboratory and field testing of sports data and insights, including designing test protocols and analysing test results (preferred)
Understanding of big data storage and data labelling for supervised learning algorithms (preferred)

Responsibilities:
Lead the data science team with daily work prioritisation, technical mentorship and line management of 3-5 team members including contractors
Liaise with internal technical and commercial stakeholders to discuss clear requirements, priorities of upcoming work packages, work estimates and progress updates.
Provide technical leadership on data science across the organisation
Design, develop and evaluate the performance of algorithms to provide valuable insights to players, coaches & broadcasters
Deliver well-written, well-documented code
Work closely with sports scientists to define & collect data with adequate performance reference for algorithm development
Iteratively optimize algorithms, to improve performance and computational load, with support from software developers and sports scientists
