Job Description - Lead Engineer

Lead Engineer
  • Location: Sittingbourne
  • Job Type: Full-time, permanent. 4on 4off (2 days, 2 nights)
  • Salary: £38,000 - £43,000

We are seeking a dedicated Lead Engineer to oversee the maintenance operations at our client's plant. This role is crucial for maximising efficiency and ensuring the continuity of safety and production levels. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining the plant's operational status with minimal downtime, contributing to their commitment to sustainability and efficiency.

Day-to-day of the Lead Engineer role:
  • Perform regular servicing and maintenance on key plant equipment and machinery.
  • Maintain and manage inventory of spare parts, reporting low stock levels to the Maintenance Manager.
  • Collaborate with Shift Managers and plant teams to optimise production schedules and repair timings.
  • Prioritise and prepare work at the start of each shift, including Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM), reported issues, and routine maintenance.
  • Liaise with Fabricators and cover for other Lead Engineers as required, ensuring smooth operations across shifts.
  • Monitor, record, and report repairs and maintenance activities during shifts.
  • Regularly check and manage equipment and tools, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.
Required Skills & Qualifications of the Lead Engineer:
  • Proven experience in a lead maintenance role
  • Strong ability to react quickly to problems and prioritise workload effectively.
  • Computer literacy, particularly in Excel and Outlook.
  • Excellent communication skills for clear and accurate data and information sharing.
  • Forklift Licence or willingness to undergo training.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety and environmental legislation.
  • Experience in Mig Welding and a good understanding of hydraulics
