Lead Engineer Advanced Engineering

Location: Farnborough, Larbert or Ballymena

We are seeking a Lead Engineer of Advanced Engineering to take the lead in validating technology and systems for our bus and coach products. This role includes overseeing projects related to powertrain, driver aids, and autonomous technology. The Lead Engineer will also be responsible for validating vehicle performance and simulation models, ensuring that vehicles meet performance targets and that the simulation models are highly accurate.

Your Dream Role:

  • Work closely with the wider engineering team to deliver vehicle systems that support the delivery and validation of new concepts and low-medium TRL projects.
  • Lead a small team of engineers to provide support for the tasks mentioned above.
  • Lead design review meetings with relevant stakeholders to ensure an appropriate level of technical and commercial scrutiny and governance is applied to project proposals.
  • Secure input and agreement from stakeholders to validate concept proposals and ensure compliance with product requirements.
  • Utilize a system engineering philosophy in the design of vehicle concepts to ensure objective supplier system selection and drive supplier accountability for the quality and performance of their delivered systems.
  • Follow the systems engineering process from requirements to validation to ensure that final products meet requirements and to ensure the accuracy of simulation models used in a MBSE approach.
  • Collaboratively develop new vehicle systems proposals, seeking guidance from internal subject matter experts and validating proposals through a series of design reviews, DFMEAs, and DVPs as necessary.
  • Deliver detailed engineering test plans and reports with accurate information within specified timelines.

What you will bring:

  • Engineering degree or equivalent experience. Preferably with experience in or formal qualification in model-based systems engineering. Ideally, a minimum of 5 years' experience in bus engineering.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem solving capability.
  • Broad level of technical skills or experience across mechanical, electrical and software development.
  • A thirst for pushing the boundaries of technology to improve powertrain efficiency, safety, reliability, connectivity, and autonomy.
  • An inquisitive enquiring mind and an ability to work from first principals to understand complex systems.
  • Specific knowledge and professional interest in advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) groups of technologies.
  • Deep knowledge of engineering development with a preference for vehicle powertrains and EV architecture. 
  • Experience gathering, processing and interpreting vehicle data and investigating vehicle behaviour.
  • Experience planning vehicle, system and sub-system tests and writing test plans and reports.
  • Capable of objective, systematic evaluation of alternative competing systems solutions relative to overall product level performance requirements
  • Systems engineering orientation and approach to vehicle development.
  • Ability to approach challenges in new, innovative ways; conceptualizing problems differently.
  • Capable of inspiring, motivating and challenging a team of technically-orientated engineers to deliver new, innovative and class-leading concepts to support future business growth.
  • Organised, and able to communicate at all levels in the business and with eternal stakeholders.
  • Ideally strong relationships and evidence of engagement with industry and government transport working groups.
  • A passion for technical automotive development and desire to develop within the bus industry.
