Lead Engineer - Global investment bank

We are partnering with a global financial institution on a Greenfield platform build that will redefine large-scale risk and trading technology. This is an opportunity to join at SVP level as a hands-on Technical Lead, steering engineering standards, cloud strategy, and distributed system design for one of the most ambitious financial technology projects in the world.

• Greenfield engineering - modern tech stack: Java, Spring Boot, Kubernetes (EKS & GKE), Kafka, Apache Ignite, MongoDB, RabbitMQ, Solace

• Massive scale - billions of risk calculations per day across trading desks globally

• Impact & visibility - shape the technical direction while mentoring global engineering teams

• Hybrid working - Moorgate Innovation Lab, 2 days per week onsite

• Compensation - £150,000-£180,000 base + bonus + excellent benefits (generous holiday allowance, pension, private medical, parental leave, employee discounts, and more)

• Lead technical direction of a next-gen cross-asset risk platform

• Drive cloud adoption (AWS & GCP), with hands-on focus on Kubernetes and distributed systems

• Set coding standards, architecture patterns, and best practices across a global engineering team

• Work with senior stakeholders, cloud vendors (AWS, Google), and quant teams to scale the platform

• Mentor and guide developers while staying hands-on in the codebase

• Expert knowledge of Java / JVM / Spring Boot

• Deep experience with Kubernetes (EKS, GKE) and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP)

• Proven background in distributed systems, event-driven architecture, and high-performance platforms

• Strong leadership skills - able to influence, mentor, and set technical strategy

• Experience with messaging and data technologies (Kafka, RabbitMQ, MongoDB, Apache Ignite)
