Lead QA Engineer | QA Strategy | Hybrid (3 Days per Week in St Albans)

We're partnering with one of the UK's most IoT & connectivity providers as they expand their critical platform.

As part of a large company modernisation programme, they a re looking to hire a Lead QA Engineer to help build an end-to-end QA strategy. This strategy will encompass various areas of Technology and will be a mission critical as our client seeks to unify IoT, Software, Data & Connectivity across a multi-national org.

The Lead QA Engineer will be joining not to do as others ask, but to define and drive the QA strategy from the ground up - bringing testing into the heart of their product and platform strategy for the first time in the UK.

The role:
You'll set the vision and best practices for quality assurance across the platform, covering everything from web UI and automation to complex connectivity layers. You'll work closely with developers, product teams, and architects to lead QA efforts across critical high-availability systems - while collaborating with a QA team and planning the future build out of a UK-based QA function.

Not set on a single technology stack, the Lead QA Engineer will be given the freedom and accountability to select the right tools for the job. Over time you will also be in a position to scale the QA team that you will eventually lead.

Essential skills and experience:

• Proven experience driving QA strategy across products or platforms

• Hands-on testing using Selenium, Cypress, or Playwright

• Strong experience in web UI testing and non-functional testing

• Familiarity with Jira and structured ticketing/workflow systems

• Background in testing complex or critical infrastructure

• Collaborative and strategic approach to working across product, architecture, and development teams

Desirable:

• Experience building or scaling QA teams from scratch

• Exposure to Solution Architecture or working alongside architects

• Background in enterprise platforms, mission-critical infrastructure, or high-availability systems

Working pattern:
Hybrid - 3 days per week onsite in St Albans, collaborating closely with the Product, Engineering, and Architecture teams.

Interview process:

• 30-minute intro call with the Hiring Manager (Richard)

• Teams interview with Richard, Sam, and HR - focused on QA experience

• Onsite panel workshop (45-minute scenario task focused on connectivity testing)

• Final 15-minute follow-up conversation with Richard

Salary & package:

• £75,000 base salary

• 10% performance bonus

• Hybrid working model (3 days onsite in St Albans)
