At Metlen, we are looking for an experienced and driven Lead Site Engineer to take ownership of day-to-day site operations on major construction and renewable energy projects across the UK.

As the senior site-based engineering professional, you will lead multidisciplinary teams, coordinate subcontractors and ensure construction activities are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest quality standards. You will play a pivotal role in driving programme delivery, maintaining strong stakeholder relationships and creating a high-performing site culture.

This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive leader who thrives in fast-paced environments and is passionate about delivering complex projects that make a lasting impact.

What You'll Be Doing

Leadership & Site Management

  • Lead and motivate a multidisciplinary site team including Site Engineers, Junior Engineers, Supervisors, Logistics and QA/QC personnel.

  • Act as the key site interface for the Project Manager, providing clear communication on progress, risks and resource requirements.

  • Coordinate subcontractors and ensure seamless collaboration across all disciplines.

  • Foster a positive, accountable and high-performing team culture.

Planning & Delivery

  • Develop and manage short-term lookahead programmes (1–4 weeks) to ensure works are planned and delivered efficiently.

  • Coordinate work sequences and interfaces to minimise clashes and maximise productivity.

  • Monitor labour, plant and materials, identifying constraints and implementing mitigation measures where required.

  • Drive progress against programme milestones and support recovery plans when necessary.

Technical & Quality Excellence

  • Review drawings, specifications, RAMS and ITPs to ensure construction readiness.

  • Provide technical guidance and resolve site engineering issues in collaboration with design and project teams.

  • Coordinate interfaces between civil, mechanical and electrical disciplines.

  • Lead inspections and ensure all works comply with project quality standards and procedures.

  • Support QA/QC activities and ensure robust quality documentation is maintained.

Health, Safety & Environment

  • Champion a strong safety culture and lead by example at all times.

  • Ensure works are carried out in accordance with RAMS, CDM regulations and safe systems of work.

  • Support toolbox talks, site safety initiatives and incident investigations.

  • Promote continuous improvement in HSE performance across the project.

Reporting & Stakeholder Management

  • Prepare and consolidate daily and weekly progress reports.

  • Provide accurate updates to the Project Manager on programme, risks and key site issues.

  • Maintain clear records of decisions, actions and technical queries.

  • Build and maintain professional relationships with clients, subcontractors and key stakeholders.

Commissioning & Handover

  • Support testing, commissioning and project handover activities.

  • Ensure as-built records, quality documentation and punch lists are completed to the required standard.

  • Contribute to lessons learned and best practice initiatives across the business.

What We're Looking For

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Structural Engineering or a related discipline.

  • Full UK Driving Licence.

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in construction, infrastructure or renewable energy projects.

  • Proven experience leading multidisciplinary site teams on complex projects.

  • Strong understanding of UK construction practices, CDM Regulations and QA/QC processes.

  • Experience in programme planning, progress reporting and subcontractor management is highly desirable.

  • Experience within renewable energy, solar PV or BESS projects would be advantageous.

Skills & Competencies

You will be:

  • A confident and inspiring leader with excellent people management skills.

  • Highly organised, with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple work fronts.

  • An effective communicator, able to influence and build relationships at all levels.

  • Commercially aware, with a proactive and solutions-focused mindset.

  • Calm under pressure and capable of making sound decisions in dynamic site environments.

  • Committed to the highest standards of safety, quality and integrity.
