Ipswich Community Media and Learning are seeking a Lead Tutor.

Not every young person thrives in mainstream education. At Ipswich Community Media (ICM), we believe creativity can unlock potential. Through music, media and creative learning, our Alternative Provision service helps young people overcome barriers, build confidence, gain qualifications and take positive steps towards brighter futures.

We are looking for an inspiring lead tutor who is passionate about education, safeguarding and making a genuine difference.

You will become a trusted mentor, advocate and positive role model, working alongside schools, families and partner agencies to help young people achieve outcomes they never thought possible.

If you believe every young person deserves the opportunity to succeed, we would love to hear from you.

What is the main purpose of the role?

You will lead the day-to-day delivery of our Alternative Provision programme, designing engaging music and media learning experiences that inspire young people to reconnect with education.

You will be the key point of contact for learners and their families, coordinating support with schools, Suffolk County Council and partner agencies while ensuring every learner receives a safe, supportive and high-quality educational experience.

Working closely with our Partnership and Service Development Manager, you will also help shape the future of the service by supporting learner recruitment, developing new ideas and continually improving the learning experience.

What will the job entail?

Your responsibilities

As our Lead Tutor you will:

  • Deliver inspiring music and media sessions tailored to individual learner needs.
  • Help young people improve attendance, confidence, wellbeing and educational outcomes.
  • Support learners to gain recognised qualifications (eg AQA and Arts Awards) and celebrate their achievements.
  • Build trusted relationships with learners, parents, schools and professional partners.
  • Lead on learner support, safeguarding and risk assessments.
  • Support learners to positively progress, including re-engaging with mainstream education.
  • Participate in EHCP reviews, Team Around the Child meetings and multi-agency working.
  • Support and guide freelance tutors to ensure consistently high standards.
  • Monitor learner progress and maintain accurate records and reports.
  • Contribute new ideas that enhance the curriculum and learner engagement.
  • Support promotional events and help grow ICM's Alternative Provision service.

About you

We are looking for someone who is creative, compassionate and able to build positive relationships with young people who may have experienced significant challenges.

You will ideally have:

  • A qualification in Music, Media or another creative discipline.
  • A teaching, training or education qualification (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience working successfully with children and young people, particularly those facing barriers to education.
  • Experience designing and delivering engaging learning programmes.
  • Experience working collaboratively with schools, parents, carers and statutory agencies.
  • Strong safeguarding knowledge (minimum Level 2 or ability to obtain immediately).
  • Excellent communication, organisational and relationship-building skills.
  • The ability to remain calm, resilient and positive in challenging situations.

Experience within Alternative Provision, SEND or specialist education would be an advantage but isn't essential.
