Job Description - Legal & Business Affairs Lead

We’re now looking for a Business Affairs and Legal Lead to help us navigate the next stage of our growth. This is a pivotal, hands-on role for someone who thrives on detail, enjoys cross-functional collaboration, and knows how to build smart, pragmatic frameworks that empower creativity while safeguarding the business.





The Role


What you’ll do:

  • Own the day-to-day business affairs and legal operations across Goalhanger, ensuring our deals, contracts, and permissions are watertight, fair, and fit for purpose.

  • Be responsible for the negotiation and drafting of key agreements, including contributor contracts, talent deals, production agreements, rights/licensing, IP agreements, and commercial partnerships.

  • Manage rights, clearances, and compliance, ensuring all content meets legal and regulatory requirements.

  • Work closely with the production and commercial teams to ensure legal considerations are factored into decisions from the outset.

  • Build and refine clear, effective processes that help the team move quickly without compromising on quality or compliance.

  • Provide strategic legal guidance on new ventures, international expansion, partnerships, and emerging business models.

  • Develop and maintain all internal legal policies and templates.

  • Oversee external legal counsel relationships and manage associated budgets.

Support risk management, company policies, and governance as the business scales.




Requirements


What you’ll bring:


  • Significant experience in a senior business affairs or legal role within media, production, entertainment, or a fast-paced creative environment.


  • Strong understanding of media law, IP, rights management, and contract negotiation.


  • Thrives in both hands-on execution and oversight roles.


  • A practical, solutions-driven mindset, able to balance creative needs with legal realities.


  • Excellent drafting and negotiation skills, with the ability to communicate complex information simply and clearly.


  • A collaborative style and the ability to build trusting relationships across multiple teams and stakeholders. 


  • Comfort working at pace and handling multiple projects simultaneously.


  • A proactive, organised approach and a genuine interest in helping the business grow in a safe, smart, scalable way.


  • Qualified lawyer, 5 + years PQE, with a proven track record of operating autonomously in a fast-paced media environment.
