Looking for a legal cashier role where you can build on your experience and develop further?
A leading independent law firm in Braintree is seeking a Legal Cashier to join its friendly accounts team, with scope to develop and take on broader responsibilities over time.
You won’t be expected to know everything on day one—the duties will be introduced over time, with support as you settle in.
The role
• Processing incoming and outgoing payments, including CHAPS and interbank transfers.
• Maintaining accurate client and office ledgers in accordance with Solicitors Accounts Rules.
• Checking bills, disbursements, expenses and payment authorisations.
• Reconciling client and office bank accounts and investigating discrepancies.
• Processing Land Registry and search invoices.
• Supporting daily, monthly and year-end accounts procedures.
• Preparing and processing VAT returns as responsibilities develop.
• Maintaining financial records, client/matter information and petty cash.
• Providing occasional payroll cover when the HR Manager is away.
About you
You’ll bring previous legal cashiering experience and a sound understanding of Solicitors Accounts Rules, together with:
• Confidence handling payments, reconciliations and financial records.
• Strong numeracy, accuracy and attention to detail.
• Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise.
• Confident IT skills, including Excel.
• An approachable manner and clear communication with colleagues.
• A willingness to learn, support the team and develop your responsibilities.
Payroll experience would be useful—please include details of any payroll work you have undertaken.
