Job Description - Legal Secretary

Specialist Law Firm, innovative and ambitious in approach, seeks a confident Legal Secretary, able to provide excellent service to their extensive client base. Town centre location, joining a team of dedicated professionals, your role as Legal Secretary would be to provide effective secretarial and administrative support to Directors and Fee Earners across all departments and to be responsible for maintaining and/or acquiring the necessary skills, knowledge and experience to perform the functions described below.

Offered as a permanent contract, the position of Legal Secretary is a full-time role (Monday to Friday) with competitive salary, dependent upon experience and immediate start available. Ideal candidate would possess previous Family legal experience (not essential however), ability to audio type, be highly organised, reliable and have excellent attention to detail.

Duties required of Legal Secretary:

* Assist Fee Earners by providing secretarial and administrative support

* Undertake a mixture of work including secretarial duties, opening files, booking counsel, perusing evidence and preparing detailed, comprehensive notes

* Draft documents as required and support the preparation of case materials

* Potential future involvement in attending court and sitting behind Counsel

* Comply with all office procedures and policies in line with SQM/CQS requirements

* Type correspondence, memoranda, court documents, file notes, proofs of evidence, questionnaires and other documents

* Audio typing and copy typing to a high standard

* Set up and maintain files accurately on ALB (case management system) in accordance with practice procedures

* Manage filing, storage and retrieval of client files, ensuring orderly maintenance in line with archiving procedures

* Provide a courteous and professional service to clients in person and by telephone, accurately recording and passing on messages promptly

* Make appointments, arrange meetings and maintain an up-to-date diary

* Provide lunchtime switchboard cover or reception support on a rotational basis

* Positively represent the Practice in all dealings with clients and external parties

* Attend relevant courses and departmental meetings as required

* Comply with the firm’s Health & Safety policy and promote the welfare of all who attend the office

Skills and attributes required by Legal Secretary:

* Previous experience as a Legal Secretary, within Family Legal Services (desirable)

* Audio type

* Typing 60 – 70 wpm with accuracy

* Good communication and interpersonal skills

* Organised, efficient and reliable

* High attention to detail

Location: Redditch, Worcestershire
Hours of Work: Mon to Fri 8.50 am - 5.00 pm (35 hours)
Salary: £24,000 – to £28 ,000 dependent upon experience
