Job Description - Legal Secretary - Family Department


Job Title: Family Secretary - Family Department
Location: Cleckheaton, West Yorkshire
Salary: £24,000 - £26,000


Are you a skilled Legal Secretary or Legal Assistant with a background in family law, seeking your next challenge within a well-established and highly respected law firm? Our client, a successful and expanding law firm with a strong reputation in the local legal community, is currently seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented professional to join their Family Law department. Key Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Deliver comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to the Family Law team

  • Prepare legal documentation and correspondence through accurate audio typing and copy typing

  • Open new client files, maintain and update case files throughout the matter lifecycle

  • Manage calendars, appointments, and key dates, including diary management for fee earners

  • Handle incoming and outgoing communications via telephone, email, and post, ensuring client queries are dealt with promptly and professionally

  • Draft standard legal forms and documents, under supervision

  • Assist with the preparation of court bundles and other case-related materials

  • Liaise with clients, courts, and third parties in a courteous and efficient manner


The Ideal Candidate Will Have:


  • Prior experience in a similar role, ideally within family law or a comparable legal environment

  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively, with a proactive and organised approach to managing workloads

  • High-level administrative and IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and case management systems

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with a confident and professional telephone manner

  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to meet deadlines and prioritise competing tasks

  • A commitment to delivering first-class client service and upholding client confidentiality at all times

  • A positive, can-do attitude with a willingness to learn and grow professionally within the firm
