We are excited to offer an excellent opportunity to join the team at The Bush Hotel, Farnham, as a Commis Chef Apprentice. Under the guidance of our Head Chef, you’ll support the kitchen team with food preparation and help ensure dishes are cooked to our standards.

Apprenticeship Overview:

• Salary: £7.55 an hour, Automatic salary increase after 1 year of apprenticeship for those who are 19+


• Working Week: Monday to Friday 6 AM - 9 PM (Start and finish times listed are the possibilities. Shift patterns will be provided in advance)


• Duration: 12 months 


• Hours: 40 hours per week

What you’ll do at work:

As a Commis Chef, you will support the kitchen team in the smooth and efficient running of daily operations. You’ll be involved in preparing high-quality dishes using fresh ingredients, while learning traditional and modern cooking techniques under the guidance of our experienced chefs.

What We’re Looking For:

We’re looking for someone with a genuine passion for food and a strong desire to learn. Ideally, you’ll have some kitchen experience, but we’re happy to provide training for the right person. A positive attitude, creativity, and willingness to contribute ideas are essential.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in the preparation of fresh, high-quality dishes combining contemporary flavours with traditional methods


• Ensure consistent presentation and food quality, in line with food safety standards


• Support the kitchen team in maintaining food cost targets and achieving budgeted gross profit


• Maintain a clean and hygienic work environment at all times


• Comply with health and safety, food safety, and COSHH regulations

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

The successful candidate will obtain a Level 2 Commis Chef Apprenticeship standard qualification.

Each apprentice will have a dedicated tutor who will conduct monthly remote tutorials and reviews, providing continuous support throughout the apprenticeship program. Depending on the apprentice’s needs, the frequency of these sessions may vary. 

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship? 

Potential full-time employment for the right candidate upon successful completion of the apprenticeship.
