Level 3 Teaching Assistant – Year 1

Rotherwood Education are currently recruiting for a dedicated and enthusiastic Level 3 Teaching Assistant to join a well-established and supportive Primary School in the Nelson area.

The role is full-time, 5 days per week, supporting pupils within a Year 1 class, and is due to start in September 2026 on a 12-month fixed-term contract.

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:15am – 3:35pm (Monday, Tuesday and Friday), 8:15am – 4:20pm (Wednesday), 8:15am – 4:05pm (Thursday), with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break each day
Daily Rate: £80 - £95 per day (dependent on experience)

About the Role:

* Support teaching and learning within a Year 1 classroom.

* Deliver phonics interventions and support pupils in developing early reading and writing skills.

* Work with individuals and small groups to reinforce learning objectives.

* Assist the class teacher with the preparation of resources and classroom activities.

* Monitor and record pupil progress, providing feedback to the class teacher.

* Support pupils' social, emotional and behavioural development.

* Establish positive and constructive relationships with pupils, parents and carers.

* Support the use of ICT in learning activities.

* Contribute to the creation of a safe, inclusive and engaging learning environment.

The Ideal Candidate Will:

* Hold a Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent).

* Hold Level 2 or equivalent qualifications in English/Literacy and Mathematics/Numeracy.

* Have experience delivering phonics support and a strong understanding of early reading development.

* Have experience working within a Key Stage 1 classroom environment, particularly with Year 1 pupils.

* Have a good understanding of the Key Stage 1 curriculum.

* Be confident supporting pupils with a range of learning needs and abilities.

* Be committed to the safeguarding and welfare of children and young people.

* Provide details of the latest two references, covering the last five years' work history.

* Possess a current DBS certificate on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one as part of the registration process.

* Be willing to complete a face-to-face registration and satisfy all relevant compliance checks.
