Literacy Subject Lead - SEN School

Salary: MPS/UPS + SEN Allowance + TLR2

Reports to: Associate Principal / Principal

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Literacy Subject Lead to join a specialist SEN school in Uxbridge, supporting pupils aged 7-19 with a range of special educational needs, including complex learning needs.

This is a teaching and responsibility post, combining high-quality classroom teaching with strategic leadership of Literacy and Communication across the school. The successful candidate will play a key role in raising standards, developing staff practice and ensuring pupils receive an engaging, appropriately differentiated literacy curriculum.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and develop the Literacy curriculum across the school, ensuring statutory requirements are met.
Monitor standards, teaching and learning, and pupil progress, identifying and implementing actions to raise achievement.
Oversee long-, medium- and short-term planning and ensure individual pupil planning is effectively implemented.
Lead the development of Literacy and Communication across the school, promoting high-quality practice and innovative approaches.
Work closely with Speech and Language Therapists to develop and implement a whole-school communication strategy.
Lead the analysis of assessment data and ensure assessment systems effectively support pupil progress.
Prepare and review the Literacy Subject Development Plan, contributing to the wider School Improvement Plan.
Model excellent teaching practice and promote a range of effective teaching and learning strategies.
Develop resources and curriculum initiatives that promote a love of reading and Literacy, including book-related events and effective use of the school library.

About You

We are looking for a committed teacher with strong Literacy expertise and the ability to lead and inspire others. You will have:

Qualified Teacher Status and relevant teaching experience.
Strong knowledge of Literacy and Communication.
Experience teaching pupils with SEN, ideally including complex learning needs.
The ability to lead curriculum development and support colleagues in improving their practice.
Experience using assessment and pupil progress data to inform teaching and intervention.
Excellent communication, organisation and leadership skills.
A willingness to undertake continued professional development in SEN, communication and behaviour management.This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious teacher to take a leading role in shaping Literacy provision within a specialist SEN environment, while continuing to develop their own leadership experience.

Salary will be determined by the successful candidate's qualifications and relevant experience, and will be in accordance with the client's pay policy
