About the Role:
Our client, a national law firm with a strong reputation in industrial disease litigation, is seeking an experienced Lead Fee Earner to join its Military Disease team. This role focuses primarily on litigated Noise-Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL) claims, offering the opportunity to handle high-value defendant-side cases within a collaborative and supportive team.
This position is ideal for a skilled litigator who thrives in a fast-paced environment, has a strong grasp of disease litigation and is motivated to contribute to successful client outcomes and ongoing team growth.

Primary Responsibility:
Manage a caseload of predominantly litigated NIHL claims within a structured and supportive legal team.

Objective:
Progress claims efficiently and strategically to achieve optimal outcomes for insurer clients while maintaining compliance, profitability and service excellence.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Document Review & Report Preparation – Ensure thorough and accurate analysis of case materials and produce clear, insightful client reports
  • Disclosure Management – Handle sensitive and confidential information in line with professional and legal standards
  • Evidence Review – Evaluate medical and personnel records to assess liability and quantum
  • Conducting Investigations – Obtain detailed witness statements and liaise directly with insured individuals
  • Instructing Counsel and Experts – Draft and deliver comprehensive instructions to external professionals
  • Legal Research and Drafting – Prepare high-quality draft pleadings, correspondence and documentation
  • Attending Conferences and Trials – Contribute effectively during legal conferences and court proceedings
  • Routine Correspondence – Maintain regular communication with all stakeholders in a timely and professional manner
  • Court Appointments – Represent the client at procedural court hearings where required
  • Liaising with Insurers and Insureds – Manage ongoing communications with key stakeholders and clients
  • Adherence to Court Timetables – Ensure compliance with all court directions and case deadlines
  • SRA Standards & Compliance – Uphold all professional standards, ensuring full compliance with legal regulations
  • Upholding Client Values – Consistently reflect and promote our client’s culture and core values in daily work

Experience, Skills and Qualifications:

  • Technical Proficiency – Significant experience handling disease cases, particularly NIHL
  • Negotiation Skills – Effective in reaching commercially sound and legally appropriate settlements
  • Initiative & Independence – Able to work autonomously while making informed legal decisions
  • Flexibility – Adaptable to shifting caseloads and legal demands
  • Communication – Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an empathetic but commercial approach
  • Attention to Detail – High level of accuracy and ability to spot key issues in complex evidence
  • Time & Task Management – Organised and self-motivated; able to prioritise under pressure
  • Work Ethic – Enthusiastic, proactive and committed to delivering excellent outcomes
  • IT Proficiency – Comfortable using legal software and Microsoft Office applications
