Live-in Housekeeper, Malborough

Tiger Private is seeking a Permanent Live-in Housekeeper in a welcoming and long-established estate near Marlborough, Wiltshire. The role is best suited to someone experienced, practical, and discreet who is seeking a long-term and settled placement in a beautiful countryside setting.

The role involves working from Friday to Monday afternoon, with Tuesday and Wednesday off. The principal, typically arrives on Friday afternoon and stays until Monday evening. He is joined regularly by his three adult children and occasional guests. Your presence would be required while he is in residence, although he values his privacy and does not expect the housekeeper to be on duty around the clock. Duties across the weekend typically involve a few hours of light work on Saturday and Sunday, such as keeping things tidy and ensuring the household runs smoothly.

Your responsibilities would include preparing simple and hearty family-style suppers on Friday and Saturday evenings - dishes such as cottage pie, roast chicken, or seasonal fish. The family are happy to help themselves to lunches and breakfasts, particularly if there’s something prepared or ready to reheat. On Sundays, you may be asked to put a joint in the oven, though if there is formal entertaining, a private chef is brought in.

There are two cleaners who currently assist with the day-to-day upkeep of the house. One will be leaving soon, and another will be recruited once the new housekeeper is in place. While the role is focused solely on the private home—not the wider 10,000-acre estate—you will be expected to oversee things like laundry (which is outsourced), receive deliveries, and keep an eye on the security systems. On occasion, you may be asked to let in auction house staff or service providers.

The ideal candidate will be confident caring for fine antiques, silver, tapestries, and other valuable furnishings. Previous experience in high-end private households is important. Discretion, a calm and capable manner, and a proactive attitude will be highly valued.

While the accommodation is currently being refurbished, the principal is a generous and considerate employer who is keen to ensure the right person is happy and well looked after.
