An established engineering and manufacturing company specialising in fabrication, tooling, and welding. We design and manufacture high-specification lifting equipment for the aerospace industry and are committed to delivering precision, quality, and reliability.

The Role - Machine Shop Manager

We are seeking a skilled and proactive Machine Shop Manager to lead a team of 16 skilled machinists. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring both technical expertise and strong team management capabilities.

Your team will include specialists in CNC machining, wire/spark erosion, vertical boring, fitting, and assembly. The successful candidate will play a key part in maintaining performance, workflow, quality, and continuous improvement on the shop floor.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the day-to-day operations of the machine shop
• Provide hands-on technical support where required
• Manage and mentor a multi-skilled team across machining and assembly disciplines
• Schedule and prioritise work to meet production targets
• Liaise with Engineering and Procurement on material requirements and subcontracting
• Ensure machine maintenance, tooling, and spares are organised and up to date
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives (Lean, 5S, KPIs)
• Promote and uphold high standards in safety, quality, and process compliance

The Ideal Candidate

• Strong background in machining and CAM programming
• Proficient in reading and interpreting technical drawings
• Experience using ERP systems
• Excellent communication and leadership skills
• Highly organised and process-oriented
• Strong focus on quality, safety, and continuous improvement
• Previous experience managing a fast-paced machine shop environment
• Familiarity with maintenance scheduling and tooling management
